My little one is so picky about eating. She still loves the baby food from the jar. Although she'll occassionaly eat some chicken or other finger foods, most of the time she refuses to eat anything other than the mushy baby foods. She's 15 months old. I'm so ready for her to start feeding her self, any ideas on how to make this transition? She won't eat a jelly sandwich or lunch meat, or vegetables likes beans or carrots. Help!

So What Happened?

Thanks for the advice. I've been doing the same. She has 10 teeth, and is doing better with chicken, still no on the veggies. But I think she's about to get better at trying things. Thanks for the advice!

If kids are hungry, they will eat. It might be about texture. Just make sure that every thing is cooked extremely soft. Cut every thing into little tiny pieces. I have one little girl in my daycare who is over two. She will not eat anything whole. I cut every thing up into tiny pieces, including sandwhichs. She likes mustard, katsup, barbeque sauce, and ranch dressing for dipping also. I put a little of each on the plate for her. She eat all of it.

Good luck with your picky eater

Some children are funny with textures like the lady said above. It also may have something to do with how many teeth she has. I started my daughter on all the same things she was eating in a jar but home made and mashed with some texture. Then we moved onto the Toddler Raviolis with Cheese. Then we worked on the Toddler veggies in jars along with the fruits. They seemed to be the softest. Alot of kids are really funny about meats. So try giving her maybe the fruits and vegetables first. Meats are usually the hardest. Then move into the meats slowly. Just make sure you cut up everything good and make sure they are soft. Eventually they do get over the texture. I also noticed my daughter ate solids way better when her molars cut especially meats. If your daughter had teeth cutting her gums may be senstive. Thats why I say start with soft stuff. Good luck!

I have a question. Does your daughter have her meals with the family, or at a different time/setting? I was thinking that if she is not sitting with the family during meals, she may not be an anxious to emulate big girl eating skills.

She will eat anything you put in front of her if you stop giving in to her choices. Belive me if she's hungry she will eat. As long as she still drinking fluids there is no danger of her starving.......

My son was the same way - I gave him anything that he WOULD eat with his fingers - crackers, cheese etc and then let him eat his fruit and vegetable from the jar so that he would still get the nutrients from them. He ate vegetables from the jar until he was like 19 mos old and then he just started liking "finger" veggies on his own. Try things that taste kind of like the jar - like snap peas and string beans - my son loves those now. Btw, mine is 3 and still will not eat lunch meat or jelly but will now eat a plain peanut butter sandwich. I am sure yours will soon be feeding herself, good luck! :)
