Ear Drops Burning.

Can you just call the ent that put the tubes in last? Both of my kids had tubes and the doctor wanted to see them back for a followup visit after six months.
I would definitely be concerned about the loss of hearing. Both of mine had a loss before tubes. I had no clue. They are both fine now though. Good luck!

I really, really don't want to scare you but will be honest.

My husbands cousin had chronic ear infections that went untreated (when I say untreated I mean they just never went away or weren't given the proper medication to help, etc.). He's now 90% deaf in that ear.

Would it hurt for you to make an appointment with an ENT just to be safe? A child's hearing isn't something I'd really want to mess around with, and it sounds like you're kind of fed up.

I had ear infections and ultimately broke both my ear drums which resulted in temporary hearing loss in both ears, full in one and partial in another. Hearing is very important in the development of a child, especially in children. The ear drops will burn. If you feel your child needs to see a specialist and has already has had tubes, press it. Get him to give you the referal. Check with your insurance and see if you have to have one. It is n ot an inreasonable request if he's had tubes and is still getting infections. If he's had enough ear infections for tubes, he's had enough for a ENT refural

Hey i have a step daughter that is 13 years old and she also had the tubes in her ears and the holes didnt heal right and she had alot of ear infections. She has also had up to 9 surgeries on her ears since she was 4 or 5 too because of her having the tubes in her ears. I would let your doctor know that you want to see a ears nose and throat specialist

I would be careful about using the ear drops if they are causing burning. Certain ear drops can be dangerous if the ear drum has ruptured.
I would also call your doctor and ask for a hearing screening to make sure he does not have any hearing loss.

My daughter just got tubes in her ears Dec. 10th and the directions for us were if your child complains of any burning from the drops you must contact the ENT! I would be very persistent or change doctors...good luck!

Call another doctor for a second opinion. Your doctor's responsibility is to the health of the child. If he won't refer you to an ENT, simply explain that because your son's health comes frist to you, you'd like to seek another opinion. Ask his office staff to forward all medical records to the second doctor's office. If you feel that's too aggressive, ask for copies of everything in his medical file, then take them to the second doctor personally.

Speaking from experience with my daughter and the ear infection nightmare. (We had the same issue with our doctor not refering us to an ENT.), there is no reason why your doctor should have issues with you seeking a second opinion. If he does, is he really the kind of health practitioner you want caring for your child?

I had the same problem with the ear drops for my two year old. I switched to Hylands Earache Tablets. You can find them at your local natural grocery store or a homeopathic store. I think I have even seen them at a CVS. They are about $10. I have recommended them to many friends and always success stories. They just dissolve under the tongue and the kids dont mind them. I hope this helps!!!

Don't be afraid of hurting the doctor's feelings. Your main concern needs to be the well-being of your child, and if your instinct tells you there's something wrong, you need to listen to that. If he still won't refer you to an ENT, ask for a second opinion, either with another doctor in that group or with a doctor outside of the group. At 6 years old, your child is able to tell you what is wrong; listen to him, and don't give up trying to get a treatment that works. Good luck.

I had alot of ear problems as a kid (and still do with holes in both eardrums now) When I would get an ear infection, our dr would tell my mom to warm the drops (soak the bottle in warm water for a while) before giving them to me. The heat the infection causes (and the fever sometimes) and the coldness of the drops hurt like hell!!! That didnt end the pain until the drops kicked in, but it did help. Also make sure that hes giving you drops that have some numbing "stuff" in them to give him a little relief

Something wonderful happened in our house today, thanks to Melaleuca, and I thought I should share it with you. This afternoon Zoe whined that her ear hurt. Anthony & I looked at each other in panic! She had only ever said that two times before and both times we ended up in the ER (of course it is always the weekend!) with an ear infection. We are not the type of parents to run to the MD unless things are BAD but she went down hill very fast both of the previous times and today I immediately started getting changed and ready for that ER trip. But I did keep my wits about me long enough to think that it might be worth putting a few drops of Melaleuca oil in her ear before going to the hospital. I did that and she seemed to quiet down. Then I got her to take a nap so she would lay still and let it do it's work. She was still complaining some when she got up but she didn't seem any worse. Within two hours or so she quit complaining and now she says she has no pain at all! What a blessing! Previously she ended up getting heavy duty antibiotic shots (which I am very leary of) and the overall experiences were rather traumatic for all of us We'll see how she does over the next 24 hours but I am pretty confident that the Melaleuca oil did the trick.

I would for sure take him to an ENT. Dr A Latz at Children's Mercy is wonderful. She is just great!!!!! My daughter had some ear drops that burned and our ENT told us to keep giving them to her and the burning would lessen, and it did. But it was so hard to keep giving them.... I think after about the 3rd or 4th time it didn't burn any more. CM can also do hearing test. They just did one on my daughter because one of her tubes fell out and now that ear keeps getting infected. And the girl that did the test said that if they have continuous fluid in there ear it can break down the eardrum and affect there hearing, but they were able to do a test that went behind the fluid so they could tell if it was just the fluid that was blocking the hearing or if the eardrum had been damaged. My daughter is getting her tube put back in this Spring.

Stick to your guns! You are your child's advocate! I didn't do that this summer for my son; I believed the new doctor that he just had a virus. When it didn't go away (and after 3 visits to this doctor's office), I took him to his old doctor (30 min away now). He immediately said my son had pneumonia (which I told the new doctor at the very beginning). The right antibiotics and he was well in just two days. I will never again go against my gut instinct! Trust yours!

Okay my kid is 13 and she has always felt it to when she grow up she started saying you don't know how bad if is on time when she was twelve rember she has been getting these since she was a babby and gets at least one a mounth but all these long awnsers are not nessary I gave her pain Medicen on day and out of the thousands of times it didn't hurt this time so I'm like okay mabbie you can Handel pain better but them next time it hurt she then relized it was the midecine so that's how you get it not to hurt give him pain medican within the hour he takes it.

Bobbie, I have 3 kids and all 3 have had ear problems. My first daughter had 2 sets of tubes and my 2nd daughter 1 set. My 11 month old son is probably on his way to tubes himself! Anyway, when my oldest had her tubes taken out, she experienced some weird sensations until the hole from the tube healed up - so perhaps that is the issue? However, if your insurance covers it - I don't see how your Ped can say you "can't" see an ENT ... that is your call. I say go see him and get his opinion. My kids saw Dr. Paul Shuff at St. John's - he's not seeing kids under 12 any longer, but he refers his kid-patients now to his partner Dr. Hartman. We really like both of them. Good luck!

I don't know if this will help you out or not because I'm not familiar with the tubes that much, but if the eardrops are that bad it might be worth a try. When I had my first son 10 years ago, I had a polish pediatrician & he was into giving your child as much natural cures as possible especially if you were on a budget. Every home remedy he gave me worked. I now use the same ones on my 2 year old son. He told me for an earache, you take olive oil (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) heat just a little bit on the stove, not hot just semi warm & pour it in the ear then plug with cotton, I used to have my boys lay down on thier side so that the oil could drain down for a few minutes. It has worked wonders for us so maybe it will help...

I had 3 of my grandchildren who had tubes in their ears until they were about 6 years old. Only one of my granddaughter complained that the drops burned her ears. When it came time to put the ear drops in, we put in 1 drop of baby oil in first then the antibiotice ear drops in (this was with the permission of the doctor). Check with your doctor first to make sure he approves of it. If by chance you have Dr. Keith Clark for his doctor, it will be ok since his nurse was the one who told us how to do this. By the way Dr. Clark is an ENT doctor and the best in OKC.
