E. Coli and Accidents

My 10 year old daughter has multiple e. Coli outbreaks every year. She refuses to go to the bathroom until she absolutely has to and sometimes after she has to. There is often poop on her panties which contributes to her illnesses. She suffers from O.C.D. which is much worse when she is sick and hates the germs in bathrooms.

Have you visited with your doctor regarding your daughter's ongoing E coli outbreaks? E coli is a bacterial infection that is able to be treated with antibiotics--although some E coli strains are anti-biotic resistant. It may be very important to pin point what in her life is flaring them.

I would be more concerned with her obsessive disorders. She is definitely old enough for therapies that can help--especially as she begins to enter puberty and a young girl's body really starts doing crazy but normal things.

Find some good help for her sake and yours!
Wishing you good luck and health.

N. I too am a little confused as to which or what you need help with. But I know my daughter was diagnosed in 5th grade with extreme anxiety and O.C.D. Wish now I would have taken her to a therapist before that to have it diagnosed earlier. But since she has been on Meds for her OCD things have changed for the better and her obsessions with things (example germs in the bathroom) have been alot easier to deal with and control. The therapist is a huge part in helping her to learn to deal with this. I suggest if you have not already seek out a therapist and stick with it along with meds if that is what they suggest. I am not one who easily agrees with medicating people but in this case it has been a blessing. It is amazing what a good therapist can bring out in a child to help them overcome all sorts of things. Good luck.

I would say a good Pediatritian needs to get involved here.

When my 8 year old was holding it until the last minute and beyond my school councelor recomended a talk about listening to his body. The discussion was with both my husband and myself and we told him that it was very important that he listen to his body no matter what else was going on. We told him about illnesses and other complications that would result in him holding it so long. We also came up with a reward program at home for him. We also reminded him that we love him and do not want him to have to learn this lesson from other kids teasing him because of the smell. I am not sure if any of this will help with your daughter as your situation seems very delicate. I do wish you the very best!
