I have had pain in my hip since my last child was born three years ago. It's progressivly getting worse. My question is should I go see a genral practitioner first and get a referal or should I go straight to a specialist and if so what type of specialist?

I have a ppo insurance so I can go to a specialist without a referal.

Thnaks & happy mothers day tomorrow

What can I do next?

I would start with your general practitioner (they are cheaper) and maybe it is something simple and easy to diagnosis.

Have you tried a Chiropractor? that might be something you might want to check into also.

I would only go to a Specialist if your Dr. isn't getting anywhere or if you aren't satisfied with what the Dr. is doing on dealing with it. Hope you get to feeling better.

about 5 years I had a problem with my back/hip I could not lie down on my back, stomach, side etc with out pain. I went to the chiro and after a few weeks of therapy I haven't had any problems since.
He told me my right hip was higher than my left hip.

Do you feel possibly your hip is out of alignment from the pregnancy or delivery? I'd say see a chiropractor. I see Dr.Pledger in Richardson,(First Care) he's great. I had my hip come out of alignment where I had pain and had to limp even, but never for that length of time. He'd adjust it a couple times and I was better. If you feel it's more serious than that, of course, contact your Dr. and he could refer you to the type of specialist you should see. I know you have a PPO and don't need a referral, I do as well, but I'm not sure exactly what he'd suspect it to be, and what type of specialist you'd need. Good luck.
