We are going away for the weekend and our little neighbor girl is going to let the dog out 5/6 times over the course of two days. What is the going rate for a pre-teen to walk the dog daily?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I went with the median range and paid her $7.50 daily even though she only had to walk him once on Friday and twice on Sunday. Thank you ladies! I knew I could count on you.

$10/day should be fine. When I was a teenager I usually got paid $5/day for pet sitting, but that was about 15 years ago.

$10 is perfect. Remember, don't overpay from the beginning. It just sets a poor precedent. But be sure to run this by her and make sure she agrees it's a fair rate. She may have a completely different amount in mind and it's always good to decide before the work.

I would probably give her twenty or twenty five dollars for the weekend.
I have a fenced in pen for my pup
Safety: I would want to know the dog is on a leash / invisible fence collar when outside... and go over the rules. My friend had somebody over to sit and the dog ran out the front dr before the leash was on. I do not know your situation. I just had to mention that since she is a pre-teen.

I called my local vet and they charge $23 a day. We usually take our dog to hubby's mom/step dad's. It costs us gas money to drive an hour round trip but I'm considering paying the vet next time.

For a pre-teen, propose $5/day. If she really takes care of the dog, walking him three times daily, feeding him, playing with him, making sure he's healthy and happy, that's reasonable.

But if she does a very good job, pay her more, and tell her you'll hire her again.

2 days. As in first thing in the morning Saturday, then all day, and all day on Sunday. (Or does this include a last time out on Friday night also?)

I would suggest around $10/day. I wouldn't give her just $5. That is devaluing the service she is doing for you, and her, simply because of her age. It would easily cost you $20/day for a kennel, not to mention you might have to board for THREE days just due to pick up/drop off scheduling.

If she is only coming over at lunch and a later on Saturday and a couple times on Sunday, then you might be able to consider $15. But I wouldn't go lower than that.

Also keep in mind, that if you plan to continue using her for this service into the future, you want her to REALLY be happy to do this. It can be a HUGE blessing to have a teen neighbor willing to dog sit when you go out of town for the holidays or on vacation. :)

I'd give her like $25 which averages out to be right around $5.00 per walk.
