this is not teething. teething does not cause 103.5 fever and or eyes crusting shut. sounds like he has an upper respitory thing of some sort and or pink eye with the eyes. c all your doctor. I am not bashing. I think you need to call right away.

Defintly call the doc. It sounds like a sinus infection, with a bad cold. It could be blocked tear duct, could be ear infection.

Teething fever is usually only 99 or 100 (for my kids). Above that it could be some type of infection. Ear infection, Pink eye, sinus infection.

If in doubt, always call the dr. the nurse will usually ask some pretty good questions and help you decide if a trip in is necessary.

Good luck.

Your first question and you end it with please no bashing which makes me wonder if this is your only account.

No one is going to bash you for asking this question. Most of the time a first time mom has gut instincts about when to visit the Dr, especially if a child's fever is 102+. Sometimes a first time mom might not want to bother the Dr office and/or think her situation is not critical. Some first time moms would be running to the ER if their child's fever hit 100. It is ok because you are learning.

YES, go to the Dr. this morning. The gunk in his eyes could indicate pink eye. In any case, ANY fevers over 100 indicate some sort of infection in his system. 101 was my target # I used to call the Dr. if my daughter ever had a fever but 102+ there is not a doubt.

yes, go to the doctor to rule out any type of bacterial infection/need for antibiotics. for future reference, that's far too high of a fever for just teething. hope your little guy is better soon!

This happened to both of my daughters over the winter. It was just a bad cold we all had. But it definitely could be an infection. Best go get him checked just to be sure.

Sounds like his sinuses were collecting infection. When the sinuses or ears are infected they pus has to find a way out. It comes out the eyes, which your little ones did (It's not pink eye, it's pus from inside, not from being exposed to a disease), and it comes out the ears, the nose, down the throat, any way it can find a crack to get out it will.

Get a sinus syringe that is like a balloon on one end. It has a long thin thing on the other end that goes into the nose.

Wrap the baby up in a blanket, hold the baby's head in your left forearm and pick up the syringe in your right hand. Use your left hand to hold the nasal opening closed on the nostril you're not suctioning out. This way it sucks from inside and not from the other nostril.

You can squish the goo out onto a tissue then go back in for more. Once you're not getting gunk out do the other side.

This is what kept my kiddo's from having super sinus and ear infections for most of their young lives. The mucus sits and grows bacteria then it starts draining out. It's nasty and the kids hate it but if you do it a few times per day when the nose is gross it will keep you and your kiddo healthier.

Any fever over 102 is a more serious infection. When you start seeing 103-104, it could be pneumonia, kidney infection, etc . It is common now a days for Pedi's to blow off fevers and have you bring them back later if they are still sick. Don't let them do that. Make them take a swab, blood test, whatever, to check for bacteria.

The body has an innate healing mechanism, called a fever. High body temps do not affect our healthy cells, but roge cells can't even handle one degree over normal, so it's the body's way of fighting infection. It is actually good for a child to run a fever when they are sick. I never fed my child round the clock nsaids to keep a fever at bay. Plus, those pain killers will mask the body's symptoms - and those symptoms help to pinpoint exactly what is going on. Take away the symptoms and we get a false feeling the child is more well than is actually the case. Plus, many people don't know that Tylenol affects the liver and Advil affects the kidneys.

I know you already got a DX but it's just something to consider for next time. :)
