Do You Make Mistakes on Mamapedia? Assume It's like Other Message Boards?

Hi I'm asking this question because I made an assumption, posted it in an answer. I realized my mistake and changed my answer but think I led others down the wrong path (thought wise)...... When you first joined did you think it was like a message board? Similar to boards where posts related to a topic are under one heading and it is a back and forth ongoing discussion? Do you find the dates confusing when you look back at a persons answers? A hypothetical situation with my mistake thrown in: Someone could join Mampedia. Do a search on something they are looking into or want to post about. Find a post from a year ago. Answer the post thinking it's an ongoing dialog like some message boards are set up. Realize Mamapedia is set up with queston and answers then post a question. Have some idiot (That would be me) look at my past answer and think the ANSWER was also posted a year ago.........

Hi Mum4ever, We can answer them. What will happen is if someone clicks on our name to look at our profile then looks at the answers we've provided, the date it shows is the date of the original question NOT the date we answered.

What can I do next?

Do you mean we can't respond to old questions? I have searched for answers, found many that are older than year, and still add my .2 cents, even though the conversation is dead. I'll even still send flowers, b/c it wasn't as common a couple of years ago. You know, just in case someone else was looking for the same info.

Mistake? IDTS...just learning from the past..

Aw, mistakes happen. I saw what you put on that woman's post & I actually sent someone a PM letting them know they had made the same mistake. I do think before we jump the gun & go into Crucifying Mama Mode, we need to ensure we've really looked into it because this IS all public after all, right?

I think it's commendable when someone does make a mistake, or say something just plain mean and they apologize and own up to it.

i saw a few people did that on that question, i pm'd one J. to let them know my observation that she did indeed respond to a question a year ago with the same info butttttt she responded today and then instead of writing a new question copied it...i was hoping ur instincts were right,...but it looks even more true now that you see she was searching for that...i feel like throwing up...=( i only pm'd , b/c i felt that only in this sittuation i would hope sh;ed get as many people possible to tell her to help that poor girl and then RUN

Well I have absolutely NO idea what you're talking about, but I have enjoyed reading the responses you HAVE put up! So keep doing what you're doing, even if it IS a 'mistake'.

I saw the post and responses as well. I pointed out the mistake w/the date in my post (I went back and edited it to point out the mistake) but the problem is that people that have already posted or usually just reading the newer posts so I don't think anyone really saw my edit. I guess I should have sent out PM's like someone else ended up doing. I wish in Mamapedia there was a way to edit an answer and have it pop up on the top of the responses where people will see it. Anyhow, it was an honest mistake and it sounds like she got the help she needed & I really hope she'll get this problem fixed ASAP!

I have almost done something similar several times. I clicked on someone's profile and then their previous questions(trying to find out if a flower was from the same person who asked the question). Then when I saw their previous questions I would start reading and forget that they weren't new questions.

My husband joined mamapedia, but was disappointed that it didn't have the back-and-forth discussions like his favorite message boards do.

I personally have not had any trouble, but apparently the earlier post that prompted all these dialogues is the one we are all talking about. I only have a problem when people post about dire situations- its their only question/answer and its about something where you should be calling the police, not asking for advice. Just my opinion.
