I LOVE LOVE LOVE this gadget my husband bought in an effort to outsource his chopping talents in the kitchen. He bought it from Williams-Sonoma for my birthday last year. It is ABSOLUTELY UTTERLY 100% brilliant and so useful. I use it every single time I cook. It made Thanksgiving a breeze. I just chopped everything in advance (onion, garlic, shallot, apples, celery, mushrooms) and it only took 15 minutes for all of it.
It works like a salad spinner. In fact part of it is for spinning fresh herbs clean. The chopping/mincing function is so easy to use. Depending on how many tugs you give the cord, you can go from coarse chop (2-3 tugs) to finely minced (dozen tugs). I regularly chop red onions, shallots, garlic and mushrooms.
I cut the onion into manageable quarters and then spin to whatever fineness I want. I rinse the bowl and tackle the next. If I need to keep chopping, I just rinse and repeat. So easy to use and clean. The only thing is not to submerge the top in water or you'll get water stuck there for a while.
I have also chopped chicken chunks for enchilladas and chicken salad.
