Do I Still Tip Her?

I found a lady who does waxing services out of her home. She posted a flyer at our gym offering these services and she also happens to be a friend of a friend (who really recommends her). If she charges $15 for a service do I tip her on top of that?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks Ladies! It makes sense to tip her. I just hadn't thought about it until this morning...but handing her a 20 still costs me way less than heading to a salon to get a bikini wax. Thanks for the insight. It does makes sense to still tip even though its in her home...yes I would still tip my hair dresser if she opened a business in her home. Thanks!

yes I would still tip her if you are happy with the service she provided. A tip is a reflection of her services.

Yes she owns the place and its out of her house and she sets the prices... but those prices are in place to cover all the supplies and get enough for an "income" to cover all of the monthly bills she has. A tip is extra money in her pocket and not part of her income... just like everyone else you tip out there.

Personally? I would. She is still performing a service, owner of the place or not. If your hair stylist was running her business from her home, would you not tip her? Same rules apply in my book.

Typically you DON'T tip the proprietor, so, no I wouldn't. She sets her own prices and she keeps all the money. If you WANT to tip her, I doubt she's so old-fashioned as to be offended by it, but it isn't necessary.

Of course you tip her!
(And that old tale about "not tipping the owner" is not true!)

I find that tipping will give me an extra edge in the future. If I'm happy with a service I tip. When I call on short notice I get in....if my dogs need a little extra attention they get it....I waitress-ed for many years my good tippers got the best service and the little extra's. My poor tippers were still served in a professional manner but I wasn't inclined to do the extra's for them.

Why would you not tip her?

She is providing a service. So what if it is out of her home and she owns the service. Service is service, owner or not.

Of course I would tip her. I would give her the same tip I would give to someone in a salon. 20%

My understanding is that you don't tip the owner of a business.

Who says you don't tip the owner of a business? If they're the one servicing you, you tip. They're still using their time and products at a loss to provide you a service. So yes, you have to tip.

What Thea and Mary said. You don't tip the owner or proprietor.
