Disney Cruise Questions

HI Moms,

We're lucky enough to be taking a Disney cruise later this year and I am working on some of the details. We are staying in Disney after the cruise (should have done it the other way around!) and I am thinking of flying to Florida the night before just to be on the safe side as far as travel delays. Has anyone done this? If so, did you stay in Disney pre-cruise and use their transportation or did you stay in Port Canaveral? I'm really asking because the ground transfers between the ship and Disney are $35 per person, each way. This adds a couple hundred dollars to the cost, so if anyone has any tips, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

LOL... Saw your question and got excited... My friends think I am the Disney Cruise Queen.... We take one at least once a year... I can help you with any details you need as I plan Disney Cruises for people for free...
Yes, it is better to end your vacation with the cruise portion, but now that it has been done, just do it the way it is booked. Since you are staying at Disney After, I would not have to do DCL transfers..... You know what, check your messages. This is far more detailed than to write in a post. There are other factors involved based on where you are staying after, if you plan on renting a car or using a transportation service. I would be happy to help you and have you join one of our Cruise Board Families.

It sounds like Michelle M is going to give you lots of useful info based on her experiences, but I think you're much better of doing Disney after the cruise rather than ending with the cruise. We've done 2 Disney cruises (and can't wait for our third next year) and have always ended with the cruise. Never again. You disembark so early and get to the airport very early, yet they recommend that you book your flight in the early afternoon to be safe. We arrived at the airport early enough to make a 9:30 flight but would have had to pay about $500 to change, so we waited at the airport until our 1:30 flight. Our boys were 2-1/2 and 13mos at the time, so it was excruciating to be at the airport that long with little ones. By ending with Disney, you'll get transported to the resort early in the morning and will have the entire day to enjoy at the parks. Have fun!!

I haven't been on the Disney Cruise line, but every time I've ever taken a cruise, I've always gone down the day before. It's so much easier, no rushing, no worrying and yes, it is another expense, but I think it's well worth it. I never went through the cruise line though, too expensive. I always just made my own arrangements for a hotel and then took a cab to the pier.

Have fun!

I am so sorry, I have no answers to your question G.. My cousin (who works in the Disney wedding dept) is getting married at DW October 2011. We will be at DW before the wedding (wedding is on a Monday) then a whole BIG bunch of us, bride and groom included are going on a Disney cruise. I was so excited to read this and see Michelle's answer. My husband and I were just talking about this VERY thing last night. Michelle~I'd love any info you have to pass on. We want to do it right when we go. Thanks!!!
