Digital Camera Problems

we have a sony cybershot 6.0 that we have had since just before my son was born (in sept 06). it has been a good little camera for us (a few too many bells and whistles for my taste but i figured out how to use it okay!) but we were at the park the other day, and the power button got stuck DOWN. it's almost like it's in there crooked now and the edge is caught or something, because it's really stuck. it won't come back up. we took the batteries out, and i even got the pics off the card and onto the computer (thank goodness!), but the lens is out and open like it's on, and it won't do ANYthing. i'm so upset because my husband thinks it was too much camera for me to begin with, we lost the book so a lot of the features were completely wasted, and "I" of course was the one that was using it when it broke. (it was his parents that bought it for us, if i'd had my choice i'd have spent less on something that was easier to use!) anyway, i know he thinks the "woman" did something stupid, although he won't say it, i'm sure he blames me for breaking the camera his folks bought us...my question is, how long do digital cameras last? we've had this one almost two years, did i really screw up or are these things just pieces of junk that aren't supposed to last very long? i hope they're supposed to last more than 2 years (although that would get me off the hook somewhat!), for the money i'd hate to think they were that cheap. also, if anyone has one of these cameras and has had experience with this (not likely i'm sure) i'd love advice. do you take it to someone to fix? do you toss it? i have no idea. i just miss my camera. and i have a two year old, i NEED my camera!

What can I do next?

have you checked the batteries? i know that's probably a silly ??? but sometimes easy to overlook. when my lens got stuck out, i had to replace them, i just used regular disposables instead of rechrgables. they're sooo expensive.
by the way, of course YOU were using the camera when it broke, how many pics do you think you've taken w/ the dang thing?...meg

Take it to Wolf Camera. They should be able to tell you what is wrong. As for how long they last, it depends on how often you use it, under what conditions, etc. But 2 years is not too long.

You might try Sony's website, you can get support for your camera at http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/select-system.pl?PRODTYP.... (With a little searching you might be able to find the owners manual as well, lots of companies are putting them on their sites now.) The camera should last longer than 2 years, I know I have had my Canon for over 5 years. Hope that this helps.

Why not take it into a camera shop and see what they say?
