My son has had diarhea for the past two weeks. I thought he was teething but if he is teething wouldn't the diarhea have gone away already. He's 2.5 yrs old. I don't know if there could be anything else wrong, if I should take him into doctor or if it will pass. Should I see if it goes away or take him to doctor?

What can I do next?

I would take him to a doctor. He could get dehydrated. He might have a virus (I heard rotovirus is going around), parasite or a food intolerance or allergy. You also might want to take him off dairy products and try the BRAT diet (ripe Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast). Too many fruit juices can be a problem too. Keep him hydrated with water and Pedialyte. Good luck!

This does seem to be going around. My daughter would have close to a week every time she teethed. Take him off milk, try watered down white grape juice, it is less acidic than apple. Lots of bananas, and watch for dehydration. As long as he is peeing, the doc won't do much.

Try the BRAT diet. Bananas, applesauce, rice and toast. I use it for my kids and it's great. Cut back on milk because it can make it worse. Replace with Pedialite.
Good luck,
J.

Unfortunately, I think there's something going around because my daughter had this same thing for about a week and a half. Unless your son is exhibiting signs of dehydration, I don't think the Dr. will do much for you. Some things I did that seemed to help at the end were that I no longer gave her any juice (I usually give 4oz per day), and I started feeding her bananas every day and not as much of the other fruit like peaches or pears. Eventually she got more solid. If you're concerned about the length of time he's been sick or if he seems dehydrated, I would take him to the Dr. though.

My 3.5 year old had diarrhea for 2 weeks about a month ago. It turned out to be a virus, apparently there is a nasty one going around. However, he had some tests done because diarrhea, especially for that long, can be more serious. I would definitly take him in. The worst/best that can happen is you find out it was nothing big! Good Luck!
