My son has had a bad diaper rash for quite a while now. I have taken him to the doctor and he gave us a cream to use on it. The rash will be almost totally gone and then all of a sudden its back. It has been so bad that he is bleeding. I have also been using corn starch and Johnsons medicated powder and have also tried Destitin and Butt Paste. It seems that nothing is working. Any suggestions?
When my daughter got really bad diaper rashes my doctor told me to use athletes foot cream and a powder at once. It seemed to help a great deal. I don't know if that will be the same for a boy as it is for a girl. The doc told me the it could be some kind of fungi rash. Almost like a yeast infection.

A few suggestions:
Try something like Lamisil for jock itch, it combats yeast problems.
Are you breastfeeding? The problem could be an allergy to what you are eating.
Formula feeding? Try a different formula.
Try a different diaper brand or switch to cloth diapers.
Always leave the diaper off so the area can dry before you put the new diaper on after a change.
Good Luck!

It may not be diaper rash. It might be a yeast infection. Lots of people don't realize it, but both men and women can get yeast infections and a warm wet diaper is a perfect breeding ground for yeast. Try a 1% athletes foot cream. I know it may sound crazy, but I used it all the time in the daycare I worked in years ago and on both of my son's. It works like a charm.
Good luck!

My grandma gave me the old fashioned remedy that she used to use of her children, she said that they never used any fancy creams or powders, she said that when her babies got diaper rash they would take plain flour and brown it in a pan and then they would put that browned flour on the rash and it worked. I have never tried it but my sister has and her boys had diaper rashes all the time. So with my sisters new baby we tried it out and I see that it works. Hope that helps!

I am a consultant with Arbonne and would be happy to send you a free sample if you would like to try it! Just email me your home address at ____@____.com and I can mail it out today!
P.S. you can read about the products here: http://www.arbonne.com/products/baby/diaperRash.asp Thanks

The best stuff I have found for diaper rash for my baby is A&D ointment. It cleared it right up when the others you named didn't. The other issue is does your baby have frequent or loose stools? From what I understand, diaper rash often comes from the chemical interaction between urine and stool or being wet for prolonged periods.I only realy had a rash struggle when we were dealing with 2 weeks of diarrhea. If your baby is having a similar problem, that could be it. Finally, he may have an allergy to the wipes.Have you tried just plain water or a bit of baby wash instead of wipes? Also, make sure you dry his bottom after cleaning before putting on cream. Hopes this helps!

My oldest also had rash problems and nothing seemed to work for him either! So, finally I took him to our ped and guess what? It was a fungal rash! They gave me the script version of athletes foot cream and within 2 days it was almost gone! A week later and it had totally disappeared and never came back. I would suggest getting some Lotrimin, Tinactin or something if nothing else seems to be working. GL!

OLD HOME REMEDY---Take all-purpose flour (not self rising) and brown it in a skillet(no grease or anything just flour)keep stirring it around until it turns brown. After it cools of course then put it all over his bottom..especially before bedtime...it will dissappear. This can be a little messy and it doesn't put the best smell in your kitchen but i had two girls who kept diaper rashes and this was their miracle. Also,it could be the diapers you're using. My oldest daughter couldn't wear huggies. So maybe try switching brands. Good Luck!Hope this helps.

Hello D.! My son is 15 months and get diaper rash ALL the time! His dr gave us wescortt creame and it helps SOME and I use desitin like crazy! But the 1 thing I fing that REALLY HELPS ALOT- is when Iput his medicated creame on and let him run around naked for a while! The air on his little butt seems to help alot. I have made the mistake of letting him be on carpet during his free time so I wouldn't recommend that! But it really does help him A LOT! Hope it helps!!

Hi! My kids are older now (8 & 14), but I do remember this problem with the youngest. First of all, be careful that it's not yeast rather than diaper rash. If so, the creams won't work. Also, we found that diaper wipes were irritating to the rash. Warm, damp washcloths and letting them air out (or hair dryer on cool setting) between changes helped more than diaper rash creams. Good Luck!

Did you try changing the type of diapers you use? This has happened to me with my middle child and it was the pampers diapers that we always used on her and just all of a sudden she just had an allergic reaction to them.
Oh also if that doesn't work call the doctors office again because sometimes they can get a fugus down there... i know it sound horrible but its just like a yeast infection.... and they might have you try a inflamitory cream.

aww that is sad I bet it breaks your heart everytime you have to change him or see him cry when he dirties the diaper. I have found that vasaline is what works best for me. I haven't ever had a problem with diaper rashes and I swear it is because of this. We put it on him every time he either looks like he is getting a rash and everytime he goes to bed since he has to sleep in a wet diaper. I dont know if the doctor has asked what you are feeding him or giving him to drink but my niece has had that problem from drinking orange juice of any brand even hic brand. I don't know if what you are giving him may have some acid in him that is causing this or not. I dont know if you want to just give him water for a week or so and see if that is it or not. Good luck and I hope that he gets better soon!

I have been there! My doctor told me the make sure I CAKE CAKE CAKE the diaper rash ointment on. So, I did...I am talking one heck of a thick layer. Sure enough within a day or two it was gone. We use Burt Bee's diaper rash ointment. Also, the doctor told me when the diaper rash is bad like that (bleeding spots) to limit fruit and fruit juices. He said those are acidic and make the sensitive skin break open. I followed both of those reccomendations and now I can get rid of diaper rash within a day or two.

My daughter also gets some pretty ugly diaper rashes, and I have found that Triple Paste works wonders! It's expensive but worth it. When she's going through a phase of rashes, I put it on every diaper change and the rash clears up within a day or so. Do you think your babies might have some sort of sensitivity to something they're eating? When I switched my daughter over to lactose-free milk after having given her regular milk for months, she quit having such a hard time.

I use Earth's Best Diaper Relief Ointment. It works really well for my daughter especially overnight. It is made by a company called JASON who has a Baby Body Care Line that uses 70% organic Ingredients which are produced without the use of potentially harmful synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. Check out their website of products: http://www.jason-natural.com/products/earths_best.php. I purchase their skin care products at Wild Oats which is an organic/all natural grocery store. My daughter has sensitive skin and these products do not aggravate her skin at all. Good luck and I hope this helps!

D., I believe you are doing everything you can; short of allowing the boys time to AIR OUT, where actually air will help in the healing process. Also as previously suggested by another mom is changing diaper brands, it could be the diaper itself. Using the creams, medications, powders and assortment, all will help but washing with warm water and mild soap instead of using baby wipes SHOULD help too. If even replacing the use of diaper wipes with a warm washcloth and mild soap helps, I'd go with that option. There are even disposable washclothes at Walmart that I use on my daughter if you aren't able to access bottom clean up with us moms on the go.

I know you've gotten a lot of responses, but my daughter had the same problem and my mom told me that her doctor told her to use Neosporin when we were growing up. I tried it and it broke the cycle of diaper rashes in a day or two. I also have tried all the brands of zinc oxide (desitin, butt paste, Johnson & Johnson, A &D, etc.), and only found Balmex to work with my daughter. Good luck!

Use some monistat cream, any kind of yeast infection cream will work.
There are two kinds of diaper rashes; an irritation rash and a yeast rash. If it started or has turned into the red, circular pinhead style rash, it's a yeast rash and any kind of women's yeast cream will clear it up (with the exception of the ovule). One of the pharmacists I used to work with told me that and it worked like a dream! Also try to give him as much dry butt time as possible, and if you can get him to a pool, the chlorine won't hurt the skin and will help heal it, dry it out, and the sun on a nice diaperless butt will help a lot too.
I have heard some people say milk of mag, but I find that suspect. The only thing it could do is act as barrier, it has no properties that lend itself to healing an external rash, milk of mag is a systemic drug, meaning it heals on the inside not the outside.
Try some monistat (or generic equivalent). I think it will really help!

My daughter had toddler's diarrhea for a year so I'm very familiar with diaper rashes. The best thing for her was to soak in a warm bath with LOTS of baking soda. Then I would let her air dry for a while and remember not to rub the rash when you are cleaning, just pat. Also, it helps to use just water to clean with instead of wipes. Good Luck!!

I am a huge fan of Arbonne Herbal Diaper Rash Cream. My son had it so bad he had blisters and bleeding. The first night, I put only vaseline, to create a water barrier to help dry it out. Alot of times the creams can irritate it more. Then, the next day I let him go without a diaper for as long as possible in the morning so it can dry out even more. Don't use wipes, use a warm wash cloth. Then when it's time to put the diaper back on, coat it thick with the diaper rash cream and keep the diaper changes frequent. If it's not yeast, it should clear up significantly in 24 hrs. Otherwise, try a new diaper brand. I know a lot of moms who have switched to Loves because of the perfumes used in Huggies and Pampers.

let him air out for as long as you can... leave his diaper off if you have hard wood floors or hard floors dont worry about him peeing just mop it up or take him out side and let him play.... also when he takes a bath you can use aveno oatmeal bath... it helps and when you get him out of the tub dab his butt dont rub it... hope this helps!! but if it doesnt clear up soon (tomorrow) take him to the doc it could be bacterial or yeast infection

You could try a store like Rural King if it's not available at Wal-Mart. It healed my son's diaper rash overnight it seemed. Good Luck.

Hey D.. My daughter got diaper rash so bad that I took her to the doctor too. One time it had turned into a yeast infection and we had to use Lotrimin AF. The other time our ped. told us to use Flanders. It is very similar in consistancy to Boudreaux Butt Paste. It is the best thing. The only place I can find it is walmart. If you can't find it in the baby section, ask the pharmacist. They always have some behind the counter. I would never use anyting else. It cleared up over night.
