Diaper 'Blow-outs' with Huggies

I think it's her BM's not the diaper ... every time we changed food I knew blow outs were coming ... plus my son was infamous for GI infections.

Huggies have never been a good fit for my kids. I find the Target brand works just as good as Pampers and I've saved a lot of money. Luvs are good too. I only use Pampers at night (the overnight ones) for the extra protection.

I also used Pampers for most of the time with my son... But as he got a little bit bigger, the diapers didn't seem to fit as well. We switched to Luvs in the SAME SIZE as the Pampers, and the diapers seemed to be a little bigger and worked a lot better. GOOD LUCK!!!

I can't stand Huggies, they have gone to inferior materials to cut costs and they don't work like they did before. My fave are Pampers Cruisers with Dry Max, and their Extra Protection diapers at night. I have a 26 month old and have absolutely no problems at all as i did with all the other brands. I fold the top (front and back) down about a half inch before I fasten them, pull out the elastic around the legs to fully open the diaper and have never had a leak. Also, if your daughter isn't at least 16 lbs or more the size 3's would be too big for her, they're pretty true to size.

Pampers are taller , huggies are wider.
So if your baby has a long torso you want papers, and if your baby has a wide torso you want huggies. I always had to swap back and forth between the two with my kids , because they would grow taller then they'd grow wider or the other way around.

I have had a LOT of problems with Huggies for whatever reason. My sister and two of our mutual friends did as well. I went to Target brand and I never went back!

Target brand diapers solved this problem for me. I was very unsure of these as I swore by pampers with my first. I always had problems with huggies, they always leaked no matter what for me.

I have not had one leak or blow out with the target brand and they seem to hold more than the pampers did. I hated the new pampers.

I have always stayed with the Pampers. Everything else including Huggies seemed to leak!

The only diaper my son (who is now 10) did not blow out of was the Wal-mart brand White Cloud. They have since changed their diaper to Parents Choice which I don't care for, but for my 11 week old I have been using the Kroger store brand and they have been working great. Parents Choice he leaked!

So You may want to try the cheaper store brands and see if they work for you. I also tried Luvs and they have stretchy sides and seem to be working pretty well. Wal-mart has them cheaper then Kroger and I happened to be there needing diapers so I grabbed them.

I used to get the walmart brand, that was the only one that would work for my daughter. Then I started using Comfort for baby brand, which I believe is a Smith's brand... not sure if they are nation wide or not. I find the store brands I used worked best for my daughter... the others leaked. Huggies overnights work best at night for whatever reason though.

i'd experiment w/the way you are using the diapers. i remember we had to use a larger diaper, and pull the tabs kinda close and on an angle to avoid the gap in the back

Yes, the title is totally corny. And no, you don't have to go totally diaper free. I certainly didn't. It did solve our diaper blowout problem, though.

When I started taking my son to poop in the potty at age 2 months, we went from two diaper blowouts a week to two diaper blowouts in the next 12 months. When he pooped in the potty, he pooped more frequently and with less volume. So even when we had a "miss", the diaper was able to hold it. My second child pooped in the potty for the first time when she was three days old.

Our daughter could only wear Pampers. There was just no choice. We used to swap with each other in the neighborhood to try out other brands.. Maybe go on craigslist and see if you can trade what you have for what you need.

I swore by pampers with my 1st until he was about a size 4-then pampers just sagged when he was slightly wet, so we switched to huggies, and used huggies overnights for him at night(they hold more)! Had absolutely no issues with blow outs.

With my 2nd son. It was a nightmare for me. I think I threw away a dozen onesies just because I got tired of trying to get the stains out. Pampers did not work at all for him. So I had to switch to Huggies and it took me awhile to figure out that he needed 1 size larger in Huggies too! I have them rather high and tight so there is no gapping at the leg holes, but once I did that I had no problems.

I don't know where yours are leaking, but my son's issue was up the back (not really the legs). So the waist line with huggies seemed to have done the trick. But they need to be high up his back. To this day if I stick him in any other diaper we have blow outs, I guess he's slightly 'explosive' (in more ways than one apparently) and it caused huge issues. There was even a period of time while trying to figure out the diaper issue where I put a cloth diaper cover on him just to contain it. I have no comparison with pampers, because we switched and I didn't like the saggy look with my 1st son!

If you're looking for a cheaper diaper the Target brand and Luvs brand I thought were pretty comparable to the Pampers--

I could not use pampers after newborn size because of blowouts. She needs the blowout catcher in the Huggies. That said I think it's really about the shape of your baby and fit of the diaper on them. GL.

I found Huggies to be the worst at containing poop. I tried various different brands of diapers and found that the Target Up and Up brand of diapers or the Costco Kirkland brand the best.

Sadly, Pampers are the only dipes that work for us.
I think the problem w/ Huggies is that stretchy band in the back...it may as well be a poop door. :(

If you get them on Amazon (Subscribe and Save) you get quite the savings. I highly recommend it.

We did Nature Babycare up to size 4, then Huggies Snug & Dry up to size 6. The only time we had problems with blowouts was during a stomach flu. We won't use Pampers because of the petrolatum in them, but when my son wore them in the NICU, they didn't contain much. We tried Target brand in a pinch one time, and his poop always went down the inside of his thighs. It could be the type/syle of Huggies? Or your child's body type? Good luck!

Hated disposables, used them with my first two kids switched to cloth with my last two. Hands down cloth works the best for containing blowouts. I exclusively breast fed as well and anyone that has breast fed can tell you there can be some pretty explosive poops. I had very few problems with them. I used luvs exclusively for my two oldest and had issues with the gel escaping from the diapers. I hated huggies, the one time I did buy them my dd peed in them and it straight through and rolled completely off the diaper not getting absorbed at all. Never touched them again after that. But I will say this in talking with several friends about diapers, Kimberly-Clark will bend over backwards to satisfy customers where as P&G will not. I have had gals tell me that if their kids grew out of a size halfway through the pkg KC would refund them or send coupons. I don't think P&G will do that.

All the mom's of girls I know use pampers. I however, have boys. Every time I've used pampers, we had blow outs. I switched to luvs (we used huggies ocassionally & they worked well too) & never looked back. We had no problems with them. So, I think the diapers are shaped differently & different diapers are better for different kids.

My daughter had Pampers up to size 4, then alternately we were fine with Costco's Kirkland or Target. Pampers was SOOOO expensive for my son 3 years later, so we only used them up to size 2, then started buying small bags of different brands to try. Luvs kept ripping, Huggies daytime leaked, and Costco's went way up in price, so I find the best price and limited leaks is Target's Up & Up (I now buy the big box of 108). We use Huggies overnight at night, and he still occasionally leaks, but at least it's never in the car seat:) Good luck - just don't buy a big box until you figure this one out:)

Cloth diapers have elastic on the top and leg gussets to actually hold in blow outs.

Disposable diapers do nothing for holding in poop. I know because I tried nearly every type before I gave up and asked on here and I was told to try cloth diapers.
Gross I know. The idea is gross, but I can honestly tell you that I dealt less with blow outs (I only had one and nothing would hold that stomach bug blow out) and handled poop less with cloth than with disposables.
Cloth diapers have elastic on the top and leg gussets to actually hold in blow outs.

No not since my son stopped pooping once a week. He was breastfed and only went once a week and it was horrible. We couldn't leave the house on poop day until he went thankfully I never had to clean that mess out but when we started cereal he went more and stopped blowing up ! I love Luvs diapers. I usually go to Sams Club and buy Pampers but sometimes I don't have the extra 40 bucks so I buy a box of Luvs for less than 20 bucks and I never have a problem.

cut down on the cereal and see what happens.
