first to clear something up that Jen C. had said. There is no such thing as a false positive. I am only 22, but I became pregnant at 20 and thought I had a false positive because I was on birth control. My doctor told me there is no such thing as a false positive, that if it comes out positive then you are pregnant. And to answer your question on the depo shot, I took it when I was 16 (my parents made me because they thought I was messing around. Which I wasn't) I didn't have a period for 2 years. The depo shot isn't something you really want your body taking. It really messes you up. At least it did for me. I gained over 60lbs on it and took forever to lose it. If I were you i'd either stick to no sex, condoms, or the pill. (Patches never worked for me either.) Good luck to you. :)

yes, all birth control isn't 100% unless you abstain completely.

There is a slim chance, but the shot can also mimic some symptoms, especially if you are new to the shot. When I first started on it I kept thinking I might be pregnant, and with no periods I kept taking test to be sure. Finally I relaxed and realized that the shot just made me feel that way. I was on it for several years, and had no trouble with it. If you are feeling nervous than just take a test to put your mind at ease, but if you get your shots on time a pregnancy is unlikely. Depo can provide false positives sometimes, so if it comes up positive go see your doctor or planned parenthood to have it confirmed, and make sure they know you are on Depo.

To clarify something A. said -- you can get false positives, but only under very specific circumstances, such as taking medications that contain hgh, the hormone that is tested for in a pg test. You can also get something that _looks_ like a very faint false positive, but is actually an evaporation line on the test -- this has happened to me. I tested what I thought was positive, then negative for a few weeks, thought I was miscarrying, no period or bleeding, and then a very strong, unmistakable positive.

Yes, you can. I know because I did. I took the shots back in the 90's for about 3 or 4 years. And contrary to what I usually see in these posts, I absolutely loved them. I lost 10 lbs and I didn't miss not having a period one bit. However, I apparently, am in the minority as far as the losing weight, and I believe the way the shots are formulated has changed since I was on them. I found out that I was pregnant when I went in for what was supposed to be a scheduled shot. I had to change the appt to a week later, and the procedure was to do a pregnancy test if the shot was not given on the scheduled date. I was floored to learn I was pregnant, and made them do the test again to be sure. I ended up being 5 weeks at the time of that test. I was told that "the batch must have been bad" or it "wore out too soon", and because no method other than abstinence is 100%, I also had to legal recourse. I do have to add that my daughter, who is now 14, was and remains the best surprise I have ever received, even if I didn't believe it on that day.
