My hubby wants to take the family to his DC conference however he is only budgeted for the $100 per night. Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

Do you have triple A? Many hotels offer an AAA discount and the auto club can even help find a place for you.

We did stay at a hotel for less than $100 per night 2 years ago... it was in August. I think we paid $84 a night. The room was tiny but the location is fantastic. Google it and see what the rates are for when you are staying... the change drastically depending on the date you need them.

i was about to post the same question! we are headed out for a last minute family trip on saturday & asked a friend of mine who lived out there for several years. last time I went, 12 years ago, we got stuck in a really really bad neighborhood with no access to the subway. yikes. i went on hotwire and found some great rates, and she said of the neighborhoods listed there, Alexandria and Arlington are good, Olde Town and Crystal City are also good but may be more expensive. I just checked the Normandy and there is nothing during our dates, but there were rooms at the Dupont. At 377 a night. No. Thank. You. !!

I live in that area, I couldn't tell you one specific hotel, but I urge you to look outside DC, in northern VA. It isn't far away and you'll find better prices, greater availability and safer areas. Alexandria, Arlington, or Fairfax are good areas. I live in a good area, but it can take up to 45 min to get there from here...

Oooooh, that's a tall order.

When I worked for 2 Marriott hotels outside Washington, DC (mid 1990's in the VA suburbs), our going rate was $184/night. I can only imagine how rough it is now.

First suggestion is to check the conference to see if they've negotiated a group rate. The next step is to call the hotel and see what their going rate is and then start negotiating. They may not budge, but they might if they're trying to sell the hotel out and have many rooms left. $100/night is better than $0/night for room. We didn't have much room for negotiation. But, you never know. DC hasn't really been hurting for business (in fact, government is one of the only sectors of the economy to grow substantially in the past few years during the recession).

Depending on where the conference is, you may have latitude with staying in the suburbs. But, travel for him to attend each day may be really difficult.

Good luck and enjoy. My family still lives there, and I miss it.

I live near DC and often travel there. I do not know of many hotels that are $100 per a night in DC. Yikes! I did some research and there were two hotels that listed under $100 per a night. I know nothing about these hotels (not good) but they have pretty average ratings.

One hotel is;
Capitol Skyline
10 "I" Street SW, Washington, DC, 20024

This hotel had really great reviews. This hotel is right in the main part of DC. Seems like a beautiful hotel. Even has the pool for the kids and certain package deals.

Another hotel with great reviews and in your price range is...

Best Western Rosslyn/Iwo Jima - Arlington, Virginia (VA)
1501 Arlington Boulevard, Arlington, Virginia 22209
Reservations: 866-757-8616 Contact: ###-###-#### Fax: ###-###-####

If you need anymore help, let me know!!!! :) I know it can be hard to find a hotel in DC for that price!

Good luck!
Thanks!
K.

P.S. I'll post again if I see anymore hotels in the price range you are looking for! :)

You can stay at the Marriott Courtyard in Herndon, VA (I stay here a few times a year when visiting family). It's perfectly fine and will cost you under $100. It's about an easy 1/2 hour drive into DC. There is even a GREAT water park 5 minutes away called the Water Mines. Also, the Air and Space museum at Dullus is a 5 minute ride.

Also, you can try Priceline or other internet sites, put in your price and an see what comes up.

You can always try priceline since you can name your own price. What I usually do is look at the hotels with the minimum # of stars that I want (usually 3) and see what they are going for. You can usually bid about 1/2 price and get it. And yep, $100 for DC is a tall order like Dana said!
