Cruise - Frisco,TX

We are taking our first Disney Cruise this fall and I can't wait. I am on a great message board called disboards.com that is all about Disney, specifically with a cruise line forum. Your kids are definitely not too old at all. Many adults travel without kids because they love the cruise line and the level of customer service, not to mention the high quality entertainment and amenities. The kids club is awesome and there are pre-teen clubs and activities too that your 12 year old would love (there are also teenage ones if he is 13 by the time you go).

8 night is a great amount of time. if you do a shorter one (5 nights or less) it often feels too rushed. you want to time to relax and enjoy both the sea days and the port days.

As for spending, it totally depends on the time of year and the type of cabin you choose. Tips are extra, and they can add up to a few hundred dollars, so factor that in. All food is included but most alcohol is not. Most activities on the ship are included but no activities off the ship are included.

we cruised with Disney about 9 months ago and cant wait to go again. There is so much for your kids to do. So what if they don't want to do a princess tea? there are many other options. to get an idea do an internet search for "disney cruise line daily navigator" that is what they call their daily newsletter full of the ship activities for the day. Of course the offerings will vary per ship/itineary but you will get a good idea.

Haven't been one, but I've heard they're fabulous. I say, do 6-8 nights & enjoy!!

K I've never been on kid friendly cruise but I can still answer a few of your questions. I went on the Royal Caribbean. Food and non alcoholic drinks are included. You can eating as much as you want on the cruise for free! The activities on the cruise are free too. Like the fun little parties and shows. If you want to do activities once you are at port then you have to pay extra for those things. 8 nights is good. Maybe even a little long. We did a 5 day one and by the 5th day we were ready to go home. Had a blast but felt like it was long enough. So 8 would still be fine but I'd say no longer than that.

I think 8 days is perfect! usually you can not bring your own beverages on board, and on the Royal Caribbean cruise we went on soda and juice and alcoholic beverages were extra, we drink a lot of water so that was not an issue for us. most all of the food was included on our ship except for the "special" restaurants (like the cupcake or ice cream shops, and few fine dining places) but they were clearly designated in ships info. I don't know if there are any "special" restaurants on Disney or not. I have heard that Disney is great for kids of all ages, and I hope to go on one next year, or on the Oasis of the Seas (RC) again! but definitely 8 days! ps do't forget that you will have to tip everyone! cabin service and table service, most ships tell you what is customary but it is a big expense to be prepared for, paid all at once at the end of your trip for us.

$1800 for three people is great. I got $600 with $150 on board credit for
five nights to Canada out of NYC. I am only an hour from the pier. Disney
is the best. You have total control as to what you spend. Think six nights

Most things are included on the ship except liquor and some activities. You pay for excursions when you are in port. You also have to pay for Soda's on the ship.
Disney has a great ship geared to all things Disney and family. Carnival has a great kids club too that would appeal to your kids.

We All Need Vacations.

I have never been on an 8 day or Disney, but with kids that maybe too long, I suggest starting with a 3-5 day with the kids. But keep in mind that is just me cause our boat was smaller and I found out that i don't like being confined on a boat. It was not horrible, just not my cup a tea I'm rushing to do again.
Take your own sodas not sure how Disney does it but If you all are soda drinkers you will drop money on that. Also the juice on our boat was not that great, once everyone figured out that the best was a certain type they kept running out quickly and the staff could not or would not keep up!
Take yyour own bottle water too! But there will be plenty of food!
We spent the most money when we docked and took an excursion and shopped for stuff. I highly recommend buying a package when you dock though...

I am curious as to where you found reasonable rates for the Disney Cruise? I have 3 kids, and it looked to be about 2k a person for a 7 day. Which um, would be 10k for us. Ew.

We just got off a Carnival Cruise. The food is included, as is all activities on board. The only thing we paid for are drinks, and shopping on the ship. Which the shopping is tax and duty free, so its actually way cheaper than you would pay for on land.

Cruises are TONS of fun, for all ages. We did a 4 day and wished me had more time. I do not recommend the Carnival though. I will cruise a different ship next time.

We ported in Key West and rented mopeds and tore up the town. It was a blast! I really liked it there. You can always try their excursions too, but those are not included, you have to pay extra for those.

Norwegian is a classier cruise line I would like to try next time.

My daughter and I went on a Disney cruise back in October. She's 9 and just her and I went. So, no, your kids are not too young. We LOVED it!! We only went on a 3 night cruise though, I wish we would have went on a longer cruise. Since it was just me and her she did not go to the kids thing, we were together the entire time. All the activities on the ship are included. We of course paid extra for excursions off the ship. Yes all the food is included- and, all the soda and drinks (not the alcoholic) are included - most cruise lines you have to pay extra for soft drinks but not Disney. They have a gift shop on the ship, so I bought my daughter and I each a souvenier .... Also we bought a few professional photos that were taken on the ship. So between excursions, photos, souveniers, and a couple glasses of wine that I had at dinner that was the only extra money I spent....... OH I also paid for my daughter to get her hair braided on the ship. I have been on Carnival cruise also (alone, not with my daughter) and I will say ....... Disney is waaaayyyyy better! The service and atmosphere is worth the extra money in my opinion. We got a "deluxe family room" and the room was double the size of a normal cruise room, which if you don't know, they are super tiny. We loved the room.
PS- I read someones answer about the same music playing on the Disney cruise line, and not true :) Believe it or not, it wasn't all Disney-Disney-Disney. It was really nice. I'd go again w/no kids even.

8 nights seems like a lot, especially if anyone winds up being prone to sea sickness.
