My boyfriend, our son, and I will be moving into our apartment shorty... Do any of you crafty moms have some cool do it yourself decorating ideas? We have some money to decorate with but I wanna make our place look as wonderful as possible so I wanna stretch me dollar : ) I am definitely more on the modern side and like things to look very "clean"... Any ideas would be great!!

What can I do next?

Pick up some old furniture with good lines at a thrift shop for cheap and repaint or reupholster. I've done this with a few pieces and they fit right in with our more traditional pieces and antiques! I like an eclectic mix. :) Good luck!

Tons of ideas, but can you tell me more about YOU? (and your BF and your son....)... that would help ;)

What's your favorite color? I know you said modern but give me more... what's your favorite book? Music? Are you outdoorsy?

Make it YOU :)

check out HGTVs website & look at some of the projects. BHG.com is also a good resource.

As for my ideas: use black frames & hang family photos. Blow them up & you have instant modern art!

You can also mount scrapbook papers or cool fabric in black frames for a custom art project. Quite a punch of color!

Iron on double sided fuseable web sticky tape is great. They sell it by the roll in the fabric section. You can use it to hem things, add a row of trim to fabric, and my favorite, you can use it to make curtains. I had trouble finding curtains to match a certain room, so, I bought an extra set of twin sheets. They cost me $6 for the pair. I folded the top over and ironed the fusable web. Instant no-sew curtains.

Go to the thrift stores in your area. You can usually get a lot of faux greenery, picture frames, area rugs, sheets, all sorts of stuff for the kitchen. It's a good place to start. Then try Ross, TJ Maxx, Dollar Stores, and Big Lots for cheap decorative stuff and housewares.

There are so many things you can do. If it is wall decoration. Pictures in simple frames all the same. You can also use fabric or printed paper inside the frames. I found a wonderful coloring book of botanicals and let my kids paint/color/ sparkle the pictures and hung those with another that had a saying on it.. Lampshades can be painted, and dazzled with pictures or trim decoupaged. Garage and estate sales hold many treasures from funiture to pictures. You never know.. I am still not sure of your syle but... go look through any of the home magazines and then look around for things similiar. I use fun little items to hold things like makeup brushes or q-tips. In the kitchen I have two baskets hanging that hold scoops and spatulas, etc.. and baskets can be painted to blend in or stand out. hope this helps.
