Have it, love it, would recommend it to anyone. It has made my period heavier, but not at all unbearable. Well well worth the benefits of no hormones, no mess, no cost.
I am really thinking about getting a copper IUD since I dont do well with hormone changes and was wondering about your experience good or bad. Thanks!
Thanks everyone for your honest input. After much thought and your help I have talked to my doctor and will be getting it. I hope it is a painless procedure for me. Thanks again!

I had one for 5 years, and never gave it a thought. It was great! Eventually it became dislodged and began causing me pain, so I had it removed. I was trying to decide what kind of birth control to use, and a month after having it removed I got pregnant. Because of complications, I didn't even think I could get pregnant. The IUD was just an added precaution. The pregnancy wasn't planned, but our son is a delight. :) My point is that fertility after having the copper IUD is not an issue.
Got the paraguard inserted after my second child in October 2010, and I haven't had any major side effects. My periods are heavier and longer but the benefits of not having hormones out weighs that for me. I would certainly recommend it.
I really liked not having any hormones and wanted to keep it as long as possible but I experienced very long and heavy periods. They lasted about 2 weeks and the first week was awful. I know heavier periods is a side effect but I think mine were a little extreme. We waited 7 months to make sure it wasn't just my body regulating itself after having a baby but after that my doctor took it out. I immediately went back to normal so I know it was the IUD. Sucks though. I did like it a lot.
I had one for ten years.
I had it, and will be getting it again!
(I had it removed due to it being inserted incorrectly, and then just went back on the pill.....long health story, nothing to do with the IUD.)
I plan to get it again when I go back for my annual.
I had one for years!!!! I am not a pill, shot, lube kinda gal. It was a little uncomfortable having it incerted....but all and all, nothing Tylonol didnt help. I did have really bad cramps the first 5-6 months and then that subsided.
If you are in a commited, single partner relationship....it is the thing to do...
.....for a lot of women that is....AND this is just my opinion and I am not wanting to offend anyone and their choices.
I had it loved it and would recommend it. I went on it because horomonal bc was putting me into early perimenopause. I had no period. So just getting one was a relief. I was 4-5 days with moderate bleeding the first year. After that it got back to what I had always had.
Got it out after 8 years and had a baby in 2009. Trying for number three then i will get one back in. It will cover me till menopause for real and that really works for me
I just posted about this! I got mine put in november. For me, it was excruciating to put it in. I had labor pain contractions for the rest of the day and bad cramps for about 3 days. Then I was fine. At first my periods were bad and longer but it has gotten better. I was 7 days late for this months period and was starting to panic! You will still get a period with the paragard but be fore warned your period can change! Overall I recommend it!
