In an effort to eat healthier, we have started eating a lot more fresh fruits and veggies. Now I'm throwing away all sorts of food stuffs and feel it very wasteful. I'm considering composting. Anyone have any tips/insights/experiences? Thanks!!!!

What can I do next?

My family has been composting for years. It's very easy, anything can be added to the compost that is natural. coffee grounds, veggie peels, leaves grass clipping, egg shells. There are many ways to set up your compost. I live in the country so we have a large square wooden box that we empty everything into. If you live in town, there are products out there for smaller compost piles. Just keep adding, just remember to turn it ever so often. Don't worry about the smell, there is none, alot of my friends do not realize we have a compost. Once you start you will be so glad you did. It produces the best veggies (twice as many) and flower. I've ever had. Good luck

Composting is easy. You can buy a composting barrel or bin. You can also make one. There are lots of useful suggestions to be found online. I used four wooden pallets I found on the side of the road to make my bin. We collect our fruit and veggie scraps and eggshells in a bucket. One of the kids will take it out at the end of the day to the compost. When I clean out my chicken coop, it all goes into the compost. Land is not required for composting. Vermicomposting (or worm composting) is done indoors.

I live on a couple of acres, but you don't need that much to compost. You can pretty much put anything in the compost bin, except meat products. It is best to have it out in the sun; turn it often; and water it so it stays fairly moist. You will need to add leaves or grass clippings. Avoid weeds in your compost. It's wonderful that you are putting back into the earth what you took away.

we do vermicomposting and it is really easy. Vermicomposting is using worms (they are completely odorless) and they are in plastic bins with lids and are kept inside. If you want more info you can message me.

Sorry I am not much help on outside composting.
