Colostrum Question

Well, I'll just get right to it!! I noticed yesterday that when I squeeze my breasts, clear liquid comes out. I have no idea what actually prompted me to do that, but either way, I am a little concerned. I have already checked out websites about infection and i dont have any of the symptoms. My breasts have been sore lately and i have put on about 10 lbs in the last couple months but other than that, everything is normal. I have had an IUD for about 4 months now, so I am assuming that I'm not pregnant, but what else could it be? I havent had a period in over 3 months but I am pretty sure that is due to the IUD. I took a pregnancy test yesterday and it came out negative. I took one right before I found out i was pregnant with my 3 year old daughter too and it read negative also (even though i was already pregnant by that point). I just dont know what to think. I dont want to ask any of my friends or family for fear that they will automatically say that it's because I'm "expecting." Any ideas as to what could cause this (besides pregnancy)??

What can I do next?

I would definitely go to the doctor to find out what's going on. It is possible that it could be a breast infection (see the WebMD article: http://www.webmd.com/hw/health_guide_atoz/sig56017.asp?na...) And it is also possible that you could be pregnant. No birth control is 100% effective and somebody has to make up that 2-3% failure rate! (I know that's not what you wanted to hear though!)

BTW, my friend had an IUD and it stopped her period. Not sure why or how that works but it did.

It could be a hormonal change. Check with your doctor. And yes, certian IUD's do cause "missed periods." That is the main attraction to the Mirena.

I had an IUD before my last child and loved it. But, they are not for everyone, and they are not as "maintenance free" as some say. They do need to be checked regularly. Your doctor should have explained this, as well as given you literature regarding such.

I also had leakage from my breasts after my middle child was born, but only upon manipulation. This occured up until he was around three.

Call your doctor, maybe it is time for a check up too.

definitely go to the doctor...iud's dont normally stop your period if i remember correctly...the only other thing that i know of that causes discharge from the nipples is cancer so i am thinking you would rather be pregnant! either way, go to the doctor...:) good luck and let us know how it turns out...:)

I'd suggest you check with the doctor to confirm whether or not you are pregnant. I have several friends with "IUD babies."
