E.S.
I'm not an expert, but having lived with that nasty virus myself all my life, I would bet that your daughter is just getting so many because she probably is still relatively new to the virus. It seems like outbreaks hit more often early, and then not so much as your body gets more accustomed to the virus. Plus, if she's 3, she probably gets colds and runny noses often (again, because she doesn't have immunity built up to the various viruses), which creates an environment for the herpes virus to hit the chapped or sore skin around mouth & nose. Check with your doctor about your daughter's age, but I love Abreva! It really does shorten the time between first sign and healing. Like I said, I've lived with these my whole life, and Abreva is the best OTC treatment I've ever found. It works nearly as well as the prescription pill that has way too many side effects for a little one! Good luck with this. I HATE cold sores!
