I would highly advise bringing him into see a chiropractor.

I have also heard karate lessons can help a great deal. My nephew has ADHD and his father is a black belt and they do much work together and my nephew has calmed down a lot. They also just recently started bringing him to see the family chiropractor and it is doing wonders!

I too have found chiripractic very helpful for kids. I have been told it can work for ADHD but don't have first hand knowledge but it has worked for preventing ear infections, dealing with one infection, dealing with allergies, colic, etc.
If you have someone you like, talk to them about their working with kids. If not, I can recommend Y-Chiropractic, Dr. Paul Moon, in Golden Valley off Highway 55 near Highway 169 at ###-###-####.
Good luck.

Hi J., I am a child behaivoral therapist and work with autisim spectrum children, I am also the mother of a 6 year old ADHD/EBD sufferer. Chiropratic care can be very effective in some children but can also be very short term for active kids. Most of the kids I work with (my son included) benifit from a combination of treatments, my advise TRY IT ALL! Keep a log of what you are trying and document negative behaivors as well. Remember each child is different so why wouldnt the treatment be different. Some things I would also try, talk to the OT at your school they specialize in sensory intergration and can provide sensory breaks during the school day ( my son has 2 a day to help "refocus" his system), try diet changes not just caffien and sugar look at the additives in foods (MSG is a big one), also look at natural supplements that are designed for children with ADD/ADHD (GNC has some to offer), and most of all ask the adults in your sons life to help support him in these treatments, make it fun, not a struggle. Good luck and hang in there, many kids with ADD grow to be very self drivin successful adults.

I hadn't heard about the chiropractic concept but I did hear about the massage therapy. I tried to get my son to do the massage at the diabetic expo last weekend and he flat out refused...seemed scared/afraid.

a little about me...a newly single mom with a 6 year old who has ADHD. I work full time also.

I have heard of this a lot. As a mother believing in natural ways of raising kids and living, I love the Mothering magazines. They have all these stories that apply to topics such as those and more. I also nanny for a chiropractor that works in edina that specializes in children. She has informed me how this can help many different things, not just bone/joint issues. If you want her name, I can let you know.
My son is almost 4 months old, and I had him adjusted 2 days after birth, and every week since then. He is well ahead of kids his age, the doctor told me he is very healthy, and she is amazed.

I don't know about chiropratic care, but I strongly urge you to check out the Feingold Program at http://www.feingold.org/

I know of a couple of kids who were able to pretty much eliminate all ADHD symptoms after being on it. It's works by removing artificial colors, flavorings, and other food additives from the child's diet.

Hi J.

Chiropractic care has been great for our daughter and family. Dr. Ginger Dunivan is who we see, great with kids with a wide range of toys in her work area. Ginger has special trained w/ peds. ADHD, not an issue for our daughter, however - I trust she could offer the best to your son. She works out of her home in St. Paul, constantly learning, going to more training, really 'reads' and is in tune with what the body is saying and needs - structurally, energeticially, nutrition, supplement, emotional, has twin daughters. Dr. Ginger Dunivan. ###-###-####. Grand ave/Snelling neighborhood. www.acornchiro.com.

I wish you the best.

Hello my name is melissa I have a 2 yr old and a 4 yr old who have been going to dr John since they 3 yrs of age .I believe it is very beneficial, our Dr. had case whichthe little boy was active and babbling and then went in for his immunizations and couple of days later started to become very nathargic stopped laughing babbling so on. He continued to do therapt with this little boy and speech skills slowly started coming back fortunatley,My step other also was and is add she says that caffiene does the opposite for hyper active than it does for a person without and she also does accupuncture, she believs very much in homeopathic methods verse the other, which hey if it works it is alot better for his body now and in the future. I hope this gives you a little bit of encouragment, good luck with your son may god bless you and your family :-) melissa

When I was a school counselor I would often advise parents to take the least invasive approach... think about how you feel when you have a headache? Here is a child that can not keep things together no matter how hard he tries... no hurt in trying it like you did about your head!
Good luck!!

Yes, yes, yes, it will benefit him GREATLY; especially if you don't want to medicate him. This is the least invasive way, outside of homeopathy, that will help him. By all means try it and if your chiro isn't convinced it will help him, try another chiropractor or tell your chiro you want to see him more aggressively (frequently)...
I also suggest reading a book I have loaned out, I can't think of the name, but it's awesome. it's a real life education on homeopathy, gives you a really great idea of how it works and why it works. email me ____@____.com and I'll find it for you...such a great book.

I haven't heard anything about a chiropractor helping with the ADHD,but I do have information about how natural supplements can help kids with ADHD( vs. taking Ritalin, etc.) I have numerous testimonials on how antioxidants and Omega-3s(fish oils) can help. If you'd like more information, please let me know and I can arrange to send it to you.

I have read about the benefits of pediatric chiropractic, and I totally believe in the practice for promoting well being. I recently brought in my 4 week old and my 15 month old to have them adjusted. My littlest one has terrible colic and my older one is tempermental. For more info check out the website www.icpa4kids.com. I went to Knewtson Family Chiropractic which was listed at the website. Kelly Knewtson is a wonderful lady and licenced in the pediatric field. I figure it doesn't hurt to try, if it works, all the better!

I have a 5 year old son and 12 year old daughter. My son had a bump on the back of his head, and wasn't himself ever since. He was not eating, and when he did, he would throw up. He would sleep almost all the time. We took him to regular doctors, but they couldn't find anything wrong. We tried CT scans, MRI's, everything. Then someone mentioned a chiropractor. We haved been going ever since. He fixed the problem.
My daughter was also diagnosed with depression, ODD (opisional defiance disorder), among other things. We tried the meds, didn't seem to do much. Then she went to the chiropractor, for something else. After that, she hasn't needed the meds, and she has been a different person. Better, nicer, and happier.
Try it once, and you will love it.
Good luck!

We see the chiropractor and he has said that he can help many of these issues. Sometimes even getting them completely off of meds. One of our sons is highly sensory and he receives OT for it. The chriopractor has helped with this issue very much.
Take care,
