Yes! I've used unsweetened cocoa powder and semi-sweet chocolate. It doesn't take much, but I do find the chili has a richer flavor.
Go for it!
I have a new and untested chili recipe that calls for 1.5 oz of bittersweet or semi-sweet chocolate. I have heard of this before but don't believe that I have ever tasted a chili with chocolate.
I was wondering if anyone has any comments about this. Is this an ingredient in YOUR favorite chili recipe? I hate to ruin a big pot of chili but at the same time I am intrigued. Apparently it gives the chili a "richer" flavor. Or so I've heard and read.
Thanks in advance for your comments.

I make a chili with no tomatoes in it and to give it a dark color I add chocolate. You don't taste it and it just adds color for the most part.
The Boy Scout have a recipe to add powder cocoa. You really don't taste the chocolate flavor. Yummmm...
YES YES YES DO IT!!!!!!!!
I'm originally from Cincinnati where a type of chili called Skyline Chili (it's a local chain there) was originated by a Greek family (the Lambrinides). They use chocolate in their chili.
It is absolutely delicious - give it a shot.
I often put cocoa powder (unsweetened) in chili. I haven't tried sweetened chocolate, but I'm sure it would be good.
We have never done the chocolate one, but we have made chili with a tiny dash of cinnamon powder and it is delicious too.
Yup, I always add a little cocoa powder to my chili. It's hard to describe but it definitely gives a fuller flavor.
I would try it, I make chicken mole that has chocolate in there its great!!!
Mmmm, sounds delicious. I would love to get the recipe, could you send it to: ____@____.com.
Thanks!!
