If he is in public school, they can't kick him out until he turns 22.
i am trying to find out if their are any parents out their that has a child thats 17 years old in the 9 grade because of his learning disabilites.what do you do for a child in that grade at 17 years old.i am still fighting for him and he has be turned away because of his age i finally got him in but after that it looks like he shuting down. Just moved to monroe LA from Baton rouge.
well he did get into the school i tried calling the school board because i really didnt feel like he would be treated right since they didnt want to take him in anyway but they said it was the in our area so he had to go their.but i think i and going ot find out if their is some other way i can move him because he is not being mistreated. He's not happy just walking around looking depressed and not talking to anybody i just believe going though this because of his age was very unfair to some that want a high school education.

I am an advocate for kids with disablities. There is not enough information here for me to tell you what to do next, and there would be too many details for me to guess and write every posiblity out for you. I would be happy to point you in the right direction. Some of what people have put in the other posts is true, if you know how to advocate, but none of it is going to fall into your lap, and you have to write the correct requests, and jump through the right hoops, or you may not get what you want for him. If you want to wade through on your one, log on to www.wrightslaw.com to learn about advocacy. Let me know if I can help.

Does your child have an IEP? Was he held back because of poor grades? How has the school been addressing his LD? If he has an IEP in place, you should be focusing on his transition goals for once he gets out of high school. Since he's in high school, he should be able to take classes that are relevant to him and his disability. That may mean he is in some freshman level classes right now, but that might be the right place for him. Either way, there should be some sort of graduation plan in place. If your child has had an IEP in the past, you should demand that an IEP team meet immediately to reassess your child and develop a plan based on his needs. I am a special ed teacher and can give you more information if you need.
you need to get the EIP involved if you have not done so by now. he needs to be tested, and provided with assistance (tutors) to help him learn tools for his learning disability.
you need to not stop fighting for him until help is provided.
good luck mama
