Got a tough one for you mom's out there.

I was in a diversity training class at work today, where they showed the video "Souls of our Students".

One of the girls talked about a book her father read her as a child; it was about a boy who loved to dance, but no one wanted to dance with him.
The girl quoted a line from the book, which went something like "if all flowers looked the same, all flowers would be named flower."
(There was another line before that, in rhymn, but I can't remember what it was.)

Does anyone know what this book is?

So What Happened?

It must be Pepito's Story (thank you Samantha H) because that is the quote:
"if every child were like every other, / You wouldn't know who was your sister or brother. / And if every flower looked just the same, / `Flower' would have to be each flower's name"
Now to just find it at my local book store ;-)

I am not familiar with this particular book but I have a book written by Julie Howe called Catty Wampus that shares a similar message about young girls playing together. It is written in rhyme with great illustrations to keep the children entertained. My daughter is 7 and it is one of her favorites. If you can't find it let me know and I can help. Good luck!

I think the book is called "Its Not All Flowers and Sausages" by Dr. Seuss. I'm not positive. Hope it helps.

I checked out the Novelist database at my library... it is Pepito's Story by Eugene Fern. It even had the same quote: "if every child were like every other, / You wouldn't know who was your sister or brother. / And if every flower looked just the same, / `Flower' would have to be each flower's name"

Could it be Oliver Button Is a Sissy by Tomie dePaola? It is about a boy that likes dancing, reading, and artsy things.

Check out "Pepito's Story" by Fern - I did a few searches, and it sounds like that might be it. Good luck!
