I have the same problem. If anybody has any good suggestions, could you please pass them along to me? Thank you!
I can't get rid of my chapped lips. I am having a baby girl in 6 days and want to be able to kiss all over her without the chapped lips. Any suggestions...I have been applying carmex to no avail.
Thanks for all of the advice. I exfoliated my lips with a toothbrush and switched from carmex. Lips are much better. On the count down to my beautiful baby girl. Keep us in your prayers. She will be here at 36 weeks 1 day due to preeclampsia.

My 9 year old says, mentholatum ointment works best! He should know, he gets them every couple of months.

Congratulations on your baby!
I love Aveda Lipsaver. It is all I use.
You can pick it up at the Aveda store at Norteast Mall.
Enjoy your little one!
I agree with Alyssa!!! I was addicted to chapstick for years and I finally stopped using it and it hurt for days but I only have to use it every once and a while now!!!! Good luck it is no fun at first but you will be so much happier not having to apply and re-apply every 10 minutes!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!

Mary Kay makes a GREAT product called Satin Lips. It has an exfoliator that you follow with a lip balm.
If you would like some let me know and I can help you. You can email me at ____@____.com
Good Luck and congrats on the pending arrival of your little girl.

I've always had good luck with Blistex. However, I have also noticed that my lips get less chapped when I consume enough healthy oils like Fish Oil and Cod Liver Oil. So, the over-chapped lips may be a sign that you don't have enough healthy fats in your diet. I find that even though I consume healthy fats, such as wild salmon, free range chicken and beef that I still need to supplement with the fish oil. There are also vegetarian forms of healthy oils such as Flax see oil. I would highly recommend you add some of these healthy fats to your diet, especially if you're planning on breastfeeding.
I use vasoline and it works to get rid of chapped lips. I also put a dab and rub into my hands to keep them from being dry and chapped during this cold weather.
Hi C.! I know for a fact that it is the carmex that is drying out your lips. Yeah, it temporarily eases the dryness, but there is some ingredient that they put in there to cause you to keep applying. I have personally had this problem as well. The only way for you to get over this is to quit applying chapstick. It wont be fun or easy but speaking from experience, there's nothing else you can do. Good luck and I hope you take my advice to heart. Stay strong and back away from the chapstick!!!! :)
I've been using Beeswax. I found it at Walgreens. It has a little bit of peppermint and vit. E.
Congrats on the new baby....SLEEP NOW!!!
I haven't read the other responses, but someone may have already told you that carmex is addicting. It's also not intended for chapped lips but for cold sores. Change your chapstick. I personally like Softlips brand because it has that touch of menthalladum (ok no clue how to spell that). I was told by the dr that you have to use something like the beeswax chap stick in the hospital because the petroleum in most are flammable and dangerous in case you have to go on oxygen for any reason. I don't like that stuff, but I used it anyway. My advice is to chunk the carmex. You'll see a HUGE difference.
Okay, this may sound bizarre, but I just saw this on Rachel Ray last week. Lisa Rinna (Dancing with the Stars and Soap Talk) swears by this.
Take a toothbrush that you don't plan to use for your teeth and put Vaseline Petroleum Jelly on it. Brush your lips with this. She swears it exfoliates and moisturizes at the same time.
Best of luck with this and your c-section. Congrats!
Are you drinking enough water? For me, chapped lips is a sign that I need to drink more. I know it will make you have to use the bathroom more, but you're body is telling you it's dehydrated.
I had the same problem and found that just plain old vasaline worked well.
I also get severly chapped lips, especially when I was pregnant! Yes, drink more water!! You can also exfoliate your lips with a wet wash cloth, or a dry one if your lips are wet. I also found that carmex didn't do the trick. Someone mentioned the vaseline in tube...that was the only thing that worked for me when I was pregnant...but along with most everything else, it only worked while I had it on! Try something that doesn't have mineral oil in it, so your lips will actually absorb the product. Anything with mineral oil will just sit on top of your lips, once it wears off, so do the benefits! I would try the natural lanolin....the pp was right, you'll need it anyway if you are breastfeeding!
Good luck!!! And, Congratulations!!
Burt's Bees has a Primrose Night Cream that I use on my lips all the time. It's probably less pricy than most name brand cosmetic lip treatments. A little goes a long way too.
Mary Kay has an exfoliation thing for your lips. It's pretty cool. I use it, but I don't sell it. I also use Blistex in the blue tube (original kind, I think) all the time. And put on some before bed...wear it overnight. It works wonders!
Actually the Carmex may be your problem. You need to switch to a product that does not contain the medicated ingredients. Don't use anything with peppermint. It feels great going on but in the long room you will be reapplying more often.
Chapstick has an All Natural product that I have tubes of all over the house and one for every purse. I used to use the plain Vaseline in the tube, but I can't seem to find this anywhere any more. For some reason, most stores now carry the medicated version which has a tendency to make your lips seem to require more.
I would suggest the exfoliating with the toothbrush. You don't have to use vaseline on the brush, just warm water. You do need to apply something to your lips afterward. I have also heard of some people using vaseline and sugar to exfoliate, but you need to make sure you don't lick that off.
I hope this helps! Congrats on the new baby. We are having a baby girl in June. I will also be having a c-section. I send my best that everything goes great and you have a most beautiful bundle of wiggling joy.

Aquaphore works wonders! Not just on chapped lips, but dry skin, diaper rash, chafe, etc. You can get it in the lotion aisle.
I have been told numerous times that chapped lips and skin are caused by not drinking enough water so your body takes moisture from your skin, lips, and even mouth and eyes if its bad enough. Hope it helps. :o)
Lanolin works too and if you breastfeed your little one you will need it anyways. I have also tried J.'s soothing naturals soothe & protect balm and that also works great on dry patches of your skin. My daughters get dry patches on their hands from washing their hands especially in the cold weather. I put it on their hands and in a couple of days it is nice and smooth again.
Congrats on your new little girl. Enjoy every moment cause they grow so fast. Take care!
I almost hate to say this, but Avon has an incredible Nutralush lip conditioner that healed my cracked and peeling lips when nothing else seemed to work. It is expensive, but well worth it. I buy several tubes whenever it goes on sale.
Hope it works for you too.

Carmex has a medicine in that is actually drying. You've just proven it too. Use Vaseline. Plain vaseline. It comes in little tubes. Put that on frequently---and don't lick your lips (that dries them out more).
