Changing My Career

Sorry, I cannot help you with where you can take sewing lessons but I can only encourage you to follow your dream. Changing careers can be very scary especially when you are in a stable noble profession. But I feel you should follow your hear because that is where you will excell. Maybe God is calling you to do what he intended you to do. You will never know unless you try. I would look into a career as a buyer and design on the side to start and then sink your teeth into it!!! Being a buyer will give you a good sense of the industry and what sells!!! You will also make good contacts to launch your own line!! Best wishes.

I would call the churches in your area and see if there are any womens groups. You will find someone that knows how to sew and teach, there is almost one in those types of groups. Perhaps they can teach you some tips or refer you in the right direction. The other thought is to go into a sewing store and see what information they can share with you. My grandma was a seamstress in the 1920's- I was blessed to watch her sew and create her own patterns for us grand kids. Her work was amazing and she was able to learn all she did while on the job. Course that was many many years ago and times have definatly changed. She make her patterns from old newspaper. Get a little more detailed on your online search as well. You might be able to find a computer program for the pattern making. Hope this helps? C.

Believe it or not, there are a lot of older women out there (grandmas mostly) that would love to teach you how to sew, read patterns and help you come up with ideas of your own and put them to work. You really shouldn't look on the internet because these ladies never use a computer. I live on the South Side and I see it all the time, little old ladies with time on their hands and they have signs outside their homes that say they will teach you how to sew, mostly for company and extra income. If you go through the southside reporter you may also find someone there. Mostly if you ask around about someone who can help you make a dress or sews for weddings and debuts, you will find a woman who can help you learn or lead you in the right direction. Trust me I tried this out myself and found that I may have ideas but I don't have the hands to make them come to life. You may be different. I hope this helps in some way...and don't forget shop around for prices and schedules...before you jump head first into it. It is going to take time. Good Luck!
