I am almost 26 weeks pregnant and just found out that the lovely midwife I was seeing is no longer practicing due to a family emergency. Needless to say I am upset and worried about finding someone else at this stage of the pregnancy. The 3 birthing centers closest to me are full and I don't want an OB/GYN unless they are all for a natural birth and a water birth. I really want a natural and a water birth. Does anyone know of any other birthing centers other Dallas Birthing Center, Lover's Lane Birthing Center or Allen Birthing center? I live in Plano and at this point I don't want a home birth unless it is the only option before delivering with a OB/GYN in hospital.

Any recommendations would be great!

Thanks.

So What Happened?

Thank you to all you wonderful Mamas for taking the time to respond to my question and for all the advice and information. FYI Aliza from Craig Ranch OB/GYN is the midwife who just left!

I am currently looking into all options and have to weigh the pros and cons of it all in particular the financial aspect.

Thank you again!

Here are some other birth centers that have been recommended to me. I go to the Allen Birth Center, so I haven't personally checked out these other ones, but my doula said they are all decent.

If none of those birth centers will work for you, you can check out the Natural Beginnings website for a list of providers/hospitals/etc. that support natural labor and birth practices.

I hope this info helps! Good luck in finding a new care provider! I can imagine that this is a stressful situation to find yourself in. =(

I went to the one in Denton on Locust street I believe?? It was WONDERFUL! It's called Inanna Birthing Center. Their website is http://www.inannabirth.com/ and their phone number is ###-###-####. I had a wonderful experience there and they have a doc on-call and a hospital close by if need be. I hope you go there and love it!! I very much did. :)

I would highly recommend considering a home birth. I had 2 great experiences with home births (midwife was Kathleen Mayorga) who is currently working at the Allen Birth Center. If you choose a qualified midwife, they will bring all the supplies they have available at the birth center. If there are any signs of trouble, they will transport you to the hospital (which is the same they do at the birth center). Most midwives have a birth tub they can bring to your house (or we used a regular inflatable pool from Target) if you have a water birth. It was very comfortable being in our own environment & you don't have to worry about packing up to leave a few hours after giving birth. I just wanted to give you my experience in case you end up deciding to try a home birth. I was nervous about it initailly and wanted to go with a birth center, but we couldn't afford the extra expense & was assured that it wouldn't be much different than our home. I went to the Garland Birth Center for my child birth class & sonogram in 2007. They were very nice & I've heard good things about them. I also contacted the Denton Birth Center in 2003 with my first pregnancy, but it ended in a miscarriage at 10 weeks. I never visited the location, but they were nice also. It will all work out for you. Congratulations.

Well, after looking at this link I wanted to forward you, I don't know if this is still good information but there was a birth center in McKinney on HWY 5. But, it looks like Pam may have moved to Sherman-?
I never did interview with Pam because I chose Cori Lively and had a fabulous home birth so I can't really give you a personal review on Pam's services. However, if Pam still practices in McKinney, you at least have another option that is close by.
Good luck in your search and congratulations!!

There's a fabulous midwifery practice in Garland: Family Centered Maternity Care 333 E. Centerville Garland, Texas 75041 ###-###-#### www.fcmcdallas.com. I was using them for my last pregnancy, but it ended in a miscarriage, so I don't have personal birth experience with them, but I really liked them personally, and their facility. They do water birth (even have a portable birth tub if you go the at-home route!).

Pretty sure there is a birthing center that offers water birthing in Denton. Denton is a great resource for natural alternatives to just about everything...it's sort of a mini Austin. Good Luck

Hi mama,

No real advice here since I live in CA.

Just wanted to urge you to reconsider your thought of a home birth. You will have an amazing birth.

The midwives dedicated to home birth are just so awesome and wise and I really think you are limiting yourself if you just search within a birth center.

At least start interviewing them, the interviews are free, and you may find one who knocks your socks off.

I wish you the peaceful birth you deserve!

Also look at some OBGYN practices. I went with a DR office that had 2 certified midwives on staff. Even through my necessery c-sec, she stayed by my side through the whole process. It was very reassuring.

Craig Ranch OBGYN has at least one midwife on staff. ###-###-####

Dear SM,
Honestly, I would go for a home birth or try the birthing center in Garland. But I have had hospital OB, CNM Homebirth and CNM hospital births. My homebirth beats the others HANDS DOWN!!

I am a birth doula and a natural childbirth (Bradley Method®) educator. I would love to talk to you about this. Please feel free to call me.
