And No you do not need boots. It is the Jewelry and or accessories (belt) you should consider. Maybe even borrow some of the pieces.

a full, swingy, calf-length skirt, a rhinestone-emblazed barrel-racer type blouse, maybe a bandana, and a REALLY awesome hat!

I would actually find some of my friends that have gone before and ask them.

I would find a website and look at past ball photo's.

I would call the host/hostess/organizer and ask that Cowboy Chic means.

I would consider that dressing normal in an after 5 type dress would be totally fine too.

Sounds like a denim and diamonds event.

I was at an event last week that was a western themed denim and diamonds and I do not wear cowboy boots nor do I own a pair.

I wore my best jeans with a crisp white sleeveless cotton dressy top and some wedge sandals. I was not over or underdressed. Some women had on a dress with cowboy boots (I hate that look and so many ppl do it here, UGH) and some were just dressed in a nice pant or sundress.

No suggestion - just that it sounds like so much fun. There's nothing like that up here! I would borrow some cowboy boots though!

What is the venue where the Ball is going to be held? Is it a fancy hotel or a big tent on a luxury ranch? If it is a fancy hotel, people may be more dressed up. If it is outdoors, fancy denim jeans and boots would be very appropriate. Have fun!

Now is your chance to buy some cowboy boots! If you get them at Sheplers or another big western store they will stretch them for you in store to help break them in.

If you really don't want to buy a pair of cowboy boots (but who wouldn't want a pair of cowboy boots in their closet?!) you could get a pair of knee-high minnetonka moccasins:

As far as the dress, (almost) anything goes. A LBD you already have would probably be great dressed up with sterling silver and turquoise jewelry :)

Dresses and cowboy/girl boots seem common enough.
Shop for a pair that fits you well enough that you won't need a break in period to be comfortable otherwise your feet are going to hate you come Monday.
