yes, it works. I was told by my doctor to take it. When I have my next one I am planning on taking it again. You can mix it with orange juice. When you take it be prepared to go into labor. Also remember that it might not work for you. my doctor recommended to take 4oz mixed with oj.

I was 10 days overdue, and took quite a dose of castor oil. I went into labor the next morning, but I had a night of TERRIBLE cramps and pain- unrelated, I think, to labor. However, if it was the castor oil that brought on labor, it was better than having to have labor induced.

If your body is not ready it will just cause you problems, I know it's hard, but just wait it out. Sit down with your favorite movie and truely forget about it all and relax. I tried to bring my labor on for about a week before it actually happened, she just wasn't really ready to budge. But 1/2 way through my movie my water broke! lol
I have also heard that if you drink castor oil somehow it can cause your baby to pass his/her first stool before being born, and that can be a real problem. I wouldn't gamble. Good luck, your almost there!

Oh yeah, btdt! It totally works! I used 3 tbs in a glass of OJ (bleh!) 3x, one hour apart. It brings on labor because it forces the lower intestines to contract repeatedly, which stimulates the uterus to do the same. Be prepared for a lot of toilet time, sistah! It WILL work, and usually by the time the baby is being born, your guts are nice and empty lol! Be sure that your baby is ready. When I did it, I was at 42 weeks, and I would have had to go into hospital to get "started", which was even LESS appealing! But if the baby isn't totally ready, you can end up with bad positioning which can make labor longer and/or harder. If labor is especially painful, think first that the baby isn't lined up right. If that's the case, there are things you can do - hands and knees, chest on a chair or couch with knees below shoulders on the floor, squatting in a labor pool will all help. Walk lots after you start labor to keep it strong, and know that you are doing well, you are powerful, and you can DO IT! Good luck! A.

I have never tried that, but what worked for me was this primrose oil liquid that you put in any drink. I took about 6 tablespoons in one day and the next day I went into labor. You can get it at any natural food store. The one I got cost about $30 though. There might be other cheaper ones than that one. Good luck!!!

my neigbor did this, she said it absolutely works but she doesnt recommend it. im told it can be dangerous for the baby, it can lead to meconium consumption somehow. plus you probably dont want to deliver in the car! just walk a lot and have sex. and try to get some rest while you can, you will need your strength. eat good and drink lots of water!! the baby will come when its ready, and if not they will induce you in the hospital in a controlled safe environment when its time. believe me, i know how you are feeling, im sure almost all of us do, but let that baby cook for as long as it needs to. if you have faith in your body and your doc, it will be ok. best of luck to you, sending good l&d vibes your way....

I used it for my first child and it brought on labor within a few hours however I didn't drink enough water and ended up dehydrated and they had to stop my labor and hook me to an IV overnight. For my second my doctor told me not to do it at all because she was worried that with a second child labor comes on quicker and it would cause distress in the baby. So, my point is, i do suggest asking your doctor about it and if you get the ok, drink plenty of fluids afterwards.
Good luck.

It really doesn't bring on labor, there isn't really anything that truly works. and at this point it would be just a coincidence if you tried anything. I tried everything and was still 2 weeks late and had to get a C-section. The baby will come when he wants to.

Actually, my little sister did. She mixed cod liver oil with orange juice and she claims it put her into labor. She decided to drink it when she was a couple of days past her due date. I am still not convinced though that the castor oil concoction brought on the labor. If you try it and it works, let me know. When are you due?

My mother told me that she used it with her 2 pregnancies and it worked for her. It will make you poop a lot so don't drink too much. The prior response also is correct--I was almost 2 weeks overdue and I had sex twice that weekend and by Monday morning I was having contractions.

I do suggest that you drink castor oil after having the baby. It's a common practice in Dominican Republic so my mother-in-law suggested it. Wow, it really cleaned me up and I felt so much better. Just make sure you have someone around to help with the baby because you'll be running to the bathroom.

I did not use castor oil but I did use Exlax. My daughter was crimping my intenstine and they told me to use exlax since I was now 38 weeks. Well within 3 days the baby was out. They warned me that this would happen since exlax is a stimulant. Good luck.

T.,
Never tried castor oil, however when I was pregnant with my 4th child someone told me to have intercourse and it would bring on labor; it worked quite well and quite quickly at that. Personally I think it is much safer than the castor oil. Hope this helps.
Hugs,
T.

I have not tried this but my aunt did. From what I know about it, it will work but it can bring on VERY strong contractions. When I was over due my mid-wife suggested not using cator oil but instead using some herbs...I forgot what now. The bottom line is that castor oil will induce labor and so is serious business. I would not do it without your doctor/midwifes consent or knowledge because it can cause the baby to rapidly go into stress and if you are not in someones care you could get in trouble. Good luck! I know it's hard to be patient (I was 16 days late!!) but try and wait as long as you can...the baby will come soon:)

I used Evening Primrose Oil, I walked and walked and walked and walked, had more sex that necessary...And, I still ended up with a c-section. Have you asked your doctor/midwife what they recommend?
