Cast Iron Skillet Question

I have had a cast iron skillet I have used for several years. It had been sticking pretty badly and I have noticed that the bottom is shiny silver not shiny black like its supposed to be. Did I ruin the pan? Is it safe to use? Should I reseason it?

What can I do next?

Remember, once it's reseasoned, never wash it in soap and water. Wipe it out, rinse it with hot water, use salt to scrub if something is stuck on or you want to get a layer or two of black off.

Always dry it immediately. NEVER put it in the dishwasher.

It's safe to use.
Re-season it and it should be fine.

I agree with the other posters. Definitely re-season it, never wash with soap, only hot water. Our cast iron skillets are permanent fixtures on our stove. As soon as we wash them with hot water, we dry them immediately with a paper towel, and coat the inside with a dab of olive oil. Then it's ready to go for next time!

No you didn't ruin it, yes it is safe to use, yes you should re-season it. And never ever use soap on it.

I would clean it really well and then re-season it.

Ditto on no dishwasher, make sure you dry it thoroughly after use

All perfect answers. I just wanted to add that my husband scraps them with a pampered chef scraper. Ya know the ones that come with the baking stones. They seem to take the ick and food off without damaging the seasoning.
