Cancun is beautiful, but not a honeymoon spot. Look into los cabos, traveling agent would be the best to ask. However, Mexico is not the safest place to visit right now.
My fiance and I are thinking about Cancun for our honeymoon in February. There are so many hotels there to choose from! It would be great to find a place that included breakfast {we'd prefer to eat other meals wherever we'd like}
Could those of you who've been there, please let me know where you stayed and how your experience with the place was.
I'm looking forward to your replies!

P.,
I am a Travel Agent in Flower Mound and I would love to help you with your honeymoon. Most of my clients prefer the Adult only all inclusives that the Riveria Maya is famous for. If you don't go the all inclusive route. I would suggest either the Westin or the JW Marriott. Please feel free to call me ###-###-#### I will be happy to help you.

Playa Del Carmen, it's about 30 min south of Cancun on the coast. Less touristy (if that's a word)
We stayed just south of Cancun in Playa del Carmen and loved it! It was a tiny bit nicer and less college-y. I can't remember the name of our place, something with Porto in the name?! It was all inclusive though, but there were multiple restaurants on property and you could always leave if you wanted to.
You may consider looking into a travel agent. They are really good at finding deals and knowing what places fit your needs and personality, just a suggestion!
I would not go to Cancun. We did for our honeymoon. It was ok.... We did go to Cabo 2 years later and liked it much more. Riu Palace.
We stayed in Playa Del Carmen and had a blast. I cant remember the name of the hotel, but it was great. We got all three meals included but we had the option of going to their sister restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. They were all fabulous. Then we knew they were all safe, water and food wise. The hotel across the street from ours was run by the same company, except there were no kids allowed. That might be awesome for honeymoon. Have fun!!!
I second the Cabo suggestion. I have close friends that live there. It is breathtaking and ...ummm, ahem... classier than Cancun;) More romantic, very beautiful.
The first time we went to Cancun we stayed at the Moon Palace, the second time Gran Melia, and the third Casa Magna Marriott. The Moon Palace was before they turned into a golf resort and a lot less than it is now. It was too far out of the city, but a beautiful. The Gran Melia, was our favorite of the 3 because of the pool. All of them were way above our expections. You get what you pay for so set a budget and plan from there. If you want a great pool look at the pictures. The location is good all down hotel row because the city bus comes regularly for cheap and isnt scary.
Between our 2nd and 3rd stay Cancun had a hurricane. It swept the sand from the beaches out to sea. Of course we didn't know that was possible. The hotels were rebuild, but the beach was going to take more time. It didn't even look like the same place. The ocean went right up to hotels. They had started rebuild the beaches up north and had plan to have it done all down hotel row by now. All of the hotel pictures were prehurriane so be care when you book. Our last stay was in 2009. We do love Cancun and the Carribean sea.
A friend of mine went but got very sick from the water. Be real careful. She had the bad runs for 3 weeks and couldn't get out of bed.
I definitely agree with the writer who suggested you use a travel agent. And remember....February is spring break for many colleges, so you might share your honeymoon with a LOT of college students! A travel agent could definitely help you out.
We stayed at the Riveria - I think - it was in 2006 and it was REALLY nice! We had beach side rooms. It was ALL INCLUSIVE and allowed us a dinner at restaurants walking distance from the hotel....so we could enjoy Cancun and not just the resort.
It was about 45 minutes from the airport, however, they had a shuttle that picked us up and took us to the hotel.
Have fuN!
DH and I honeymooned in Playa del Carmen. Didn't see any college kids and it's basically the same kind of beach as Cancun. Plus, there are other excursions like Chichen Itza, Xelha, Tulum, etc all down south around Playa del Carmen.
I really like the Royal Solaris. I've stayed there several times and I have a great time everytime. The food is pretty good, the service is great, and the entertainment and entertainment staff is incredible. Its all inclusive too. Have a wonderful trip!
I loved it but I went as a college student during spring break. I would not recommend going for a honeymoon during spring break time that usually runs mid-February thru mid-April.
I can't remember the names of places hubby and I stayed - it was a work related incentive trip he won, so I didn't mess with the details - LOL. But is was in mid-February and there were no college kids around, but the weather is a bit tricky - it rained one or more days both years we went and we were there for a week - so just keep that in mind if you have a short stay that you all have more than just "beach" activities to do:)
Here is what I wanted to recommend, thought, my brother and SIL went to Isla Mujeres and raved about it. It is just off the Cancun coast, and in Quantanaroo (sp) so travel is very much the same travel route.
Have fun!
