just wondering if anyone has any experience with this... i am 36 weeks pregnant with twins (yaaa), and although i am not very big for twins (babies are weighing approximately 5.5 pounds each now), i have a new discomfort. my left buttock hurts, but not like muscle pain, rubbing does not help. and i can handle this, BUT now the pain is more severe with any weight and i am having a hard time bearing any weight at all on my left let, the pain gets severe and i am scared i will fall. is this the babies heads putting pressure on a nerve??? not sure what to do. any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Try a chiropractor that specializes in OB. It might help relieve the pain, even if for a day at a time.

Hi... I am sorry you are going through this pain... I went through it but I only carried one baby in each pregnancy (all 9 pounders though). I wastold by most doctors that it was my ciatic nerve. I did get pain medication but decided the pain was not so unbearable that I neede to take it (I did not want to cause of the pregnancy.
Heating pads temporarily helped. Baths, sitting on th right cheek (If you still can) But notyhing took it away. I was reffered to a chiropractor but was at the end of my pregnancy so did not bother but I have heard wonders of him cause he specializes in pregnant women. I did finally get massages from a masseus that specializes in pregnant women... they worked wonders took the pain away for about 5 to 7 days but then I needed another one... got a bit expensive. if you are interested I can give you her contact info she works at South Miami Hospital or goes to your home.
I did wind up in the hospital with the pain in my second pregngncy. I litterally thought it was labor pains because they were so strong. I threw up with pain and was hospitalized for 3 days. I was given pain medication and took it cause it was unberable.after afew days of taking it the pain was bearable again so i stoped. The doctors there had two theories... once again the ciatic nerve, and the other was stones in my gall bladder which I did have. After that pregnancy I did get the pain and it increased to when I took a breath so I went to the ER and wound up having emergency gall bladder removal. I can't tell you that I am sure that the pain came from that because on my third pregnancy I had the pain AGAIN!!! However it was much less so maybe it helped!. GOOD LUCK!!!

Yuck I know that pain well and I am not pg! It sounds like it's sciatic (not sure if I spelled it right. I put ice on my very lower back and upper buttocks. It does help to relieve the discomfort. Try that. It stinks I know. When I get it I also get a tingly numbness type feeling too. Weird but most likely your sciatic nerve.

Hope the ice helps. Definately try it.

It sounds like the sciatica pain I had while pregnant with both my kids. I would definitely tell your doctor so he/she can check it out.

I am impressed that you have carried the twins this long. Most twins are born around 32 weeks so you are doing great. Now that pain you are describing sounds just like sciatica. The babies are laying on the sciatica nerve that runs through your cheek and down the legs. I had it as well and no matter what position I got it I could not make it go away. Sometimes it helped to get down on my hands and knees and arch my back up like a cat. I would do this a few times and it seemed to help move the baby off the nerve. It went away after I delivered, which by the way was a whooping 10pound 13 oz 24 inch long baby boy. Ice may help as well. Or laying down on you side, the one not hurting and putting a pillow between your knees and a few pillows against your back. I hope you get some relief because it is not fun. Good luck with those twins and dont forget to ask for help.

Hi K.
I have twins girls. they are now 21. Yes, I know what you are talking about. It is the babies putting pressure on your low back with pinches nerve that goes down your legs. Prop a pillow ucer your knees to help relax the leg alittle and that will help. Hope you a great birth. Good luck to you and your babies.
