Bundle Me Blankets

My daughter is 23 months and she just wears a coat (and hat) most of the time, sometimes a blanket over her lap in the car or stroller if it is really cold. When she was in the baby carrier I put her in layers a warm hat and a fleece jacket under the bundle me. A full winter coat was a bit much with the bundle me. I have a similar fleece thing like a sleeping bag for the stroller but it is such a pain to use with a toddler I usually don't bother. It also only keeps her legs warm. I might use it for a long walk outside though. It just stays in the car until I need it.

I wouldn't recommend a bundle-me or a coat. You aren't supposed to have anything behind the baby. And if there's a heavy coat, they can get ejected from the coat and the car seat.

I got a Kidppotomas (not sure about spelling). It goes over the car seat, and is held on by elastic. It was GREAT. It zips up in front, so she won't be able to throw it off. They make different weights. We got a light fleece-lined one, and put blankets underneath for when we got out of the car. It solved all issues, and was made out of rain-resistant material, so it even kept her dry!

Kids aren't suppose to wear coats or blankets in the car. They can overheat too easily. There is absolutely no reason to have a blanket and a coat. One or the other would be fine. I would take it off before you put her in the carseat. My girls are 16 months and 3 years and if we're going to be in the car longer than 10 minutes, we take their coats off before buckling them in. I think the coat also makes the harness less effective in case of an accident. There's no way to get it really snug with the bulk of a coat.

I wanted to edit my answer....is she still in an infant carrier? I would think at 21 months that she would exceed the weight and or height limit. After looking at the blankets, I'm certain they are only to be used in an infant carrier. I can't even think how you would be able to use one of those blankets with a bigger car seat. If you DID put her in one of those blankets and a coat, the poor thing would be WAY too hot.

I wouldn't use anything in addition to the Bundle Me, as she will probably get overheated. My boys both used to sweat if I even had the Bundle Me fully zipped in the car. I'd just put her in a sweater, but not too many layers.

Kids aren't supposed to wear coats in a carseat at all; the Bundle Me isn't even recommended. They can wear fleece jackets, though.

A winter jacket, snowsuit and even a Bundle Me to a lesser extent can compress in an accident, making the belts too loose. Kids have been ejected from their carseats in accidents because they were wearing these before.

If you want to use a coat and Bundle Me, bring the carseat inside, dress the baby as you would and strap them in. WIthout loosening the straps, take them out, remove the coat the Bundle Me and put them back in without tightening the straps. If you can fit more than 2 fingers under the strap at the shoulder, they are too bulky and not safe.

To be more safe, you can cut the back out of the Bundle Me, and put the child in a fleece. Putting a blanket over the strapped-in child is safe, and they make these things that go up over car seats and are safe too, although I can't remember what they're called.

You are in a house or a car - it's not cold. She'll be too hot in a coat, too, and then it's a real pain to have to get it off her. If you are walking outside, just put a blanket over the top of the car carrier.

We didn't use a coat when using the bundle me, but did wrap him up in a scarf to keep the "draft" to a minimum! I loved the Bundle Me and found that they keep the little ones quite toasty and it's actually pretty tough for them to pull it down. Don't forget a hat that covers her ears and a turtleneck!

I think the bundle me blanket is sufficient, but she should probably wear the coat out to the car and then remove it once inside. You can put her in a fleece to keep her arms and top half warm when she pulls down the blanket. Make sure she's got a hat on to keep her head warm.

In a stroller situation, if you'll be outside for any length of time I would add the coat and some mittens, and maybe a wind guard, or extra blanket to cover her face in the wind/snow.

For other posters, the blanket comes in infant and toddler sizes, so it can be used with older kids on regular car seats, and also with strollers.
