Brother in Need of Employment and a Place to Stay

Hi everyone, I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

My brother just moved back to Michigan because of some financial problems and is currently staying with friends. He asked me if I knew of any place he could stay and I'm at a loss. We are full in our house and he isn't on the best of terms with the rest of our family.

So, is there a government or independent organization that helps people in this way? He is currently in Richmond and I think he prefers that area.

Any advice or suggestions are much appreciated.
Thanks
God Bless
K.

P.S. He's a not an abuser of anything he just has no clue how to save. When he had a job he spent it all and lost everything because of it.

What can I do next?

Check out the website www.uwsem.org...its supposed to be a website that helps people who are in need of basic necessities in the state of Michigan. Also, if he is in dire straits and doesn't mind living in Ann Arbor...that City has all kind of programs for low income and struggling persons. I'll put it to you this way, If I were ever to become homeless or in a bad situation, I would seriously consider moving their just b/c they actually take care of their residents really well.

Good Luck!

Contact local churches in Richmond, see if they know of any places.

You need to check the resources for low-income people in your area that may be run by the govt, Catholic or Lutheran Social Services (they serve anybody), or your local crisis center for in a jam. If there's a big church in Richmond that helps people in crisis, they may have this information. Also the unemployment office, which someone recommended. Most communities have a directory of community resources put out by Community Information or something like that. Your brother can likely get food stamps if he has an address.

I will say that if he's looking to freeload and not take responsibility for himself, you may want to limit your involvement to giving him the resources and refusing to do it for him. Also, if he's a substance abuser, that should be dealt with first or nothing else will work for very long.

Good luck!

I know Memphis used to have apartments based on income and if he goes to the unemployment office they should be able to get him a job. He needs to realize in Michigans economy he can't be to picky, even fast food would be better than nothing until something else comes along.

There are some low income housing units in sterling hgts-utica area. It's not Richmond, but it's not bad either. They are located south of m59 between Schoenherr and Van Dyke hope this helps
