Booty-crack-free Jean Shorts for a 10-Year Old

No matter where I look, I can't find shorts that fit my 10-year old that don't show her booty crack when she sits down! I'm totally appalled!

I make her wear a belt but the shorts they make nowadays are hipster shorts so wearing a belt doesn't help much. They still gap in the back, slide down and then she's showing more than she should. She's a size 10.

Any suggestions? Brands?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much! We will try Old Navy, we haven't been there yet.

I have a tiny waist and could never find shorts that fit nicely.

Someone told me to go to the little boys deptartment. I did and that is where I found shorts that fit perfectly. I can still wear my little boy's levi shorts.

Also, go for higher quality and upscale it a bit.

My daughter is a 10-12 with very narrow hips and we haven't had this problem (?)
There are lots of other choices besides hipster style shorts, where are you shopping?
Lands End, LL Bean, Old Navy/Gap and the "American Living" brand at JC Penney are all good for more traditional cuts. Target also has regular shorts, and so does Big 5 and Sports Authority.
If you are shopping at stores that push the hootchie-mama style, like Justice, Khols and Abercrombie, then yes, your choices will be limited.

My husband refused to buy my daughter shorts at Kohl's the other day :). Looks like she'll be in Bermuda shorts this season.

She is a size 12 and really tall for her age...so her having long legs doesn't help the issue.

Apparently, no O. else can find them either. They are a constant source of amusement to my son and his buds in 3rd grade! :P

Have you tried Land's End Kids?

Have her wear long shirts. My 10 year old wears long shirts which tend to cover her bottom anyway. Would going up a size help because the shorts would be longer and could be pulled up to waist level?

Yep, Old Navy! We were just there this weekend and my daughter found a great pair of jean shorts. They're a little longer (which I particularly like) sort of like bermudas. And they stay up where they belong when she sits down. Also they're REALLY soft. We actually bought them in a size 10, too!

I second (fourth?) Old Navy. I bought shorts there for my daughter yesterday and was happy to see the size 8s still had adjustable waists. I should be able to make them tight enough to eliminate the crack problem.

Old Navy! My older daughter wore a size 10 last summer, and I found several different styles at Old Navy that sit at the waist (as opposed to the kind that sit at the hip and show butt crack when they sit down!). I also found a few pairs for myself that fit nicely as well - it's my pet peeve to be able to see people's underwear when they sit down, I am totally with you on that!

Did you try Old Navy?
Try looking online... they have other shorts styles besides, those "hipster" short shorts.

I hate that too! I have had luck at Kohl's and Target with higher waisted stuff. You can also go to resale shops and find stuff there usually. Longer shirts is another option to save the scene.

The Children's Place, but sizes are kind of weird there (depends on style) so make sure you try on. We have some nice ones from Justice, but they were hand-me-downs from a few years ago, so maybe the style has changed since then.
I love thrift stores too and resale shops, but you have to do a lot of looking and trying on (we call it "treasure hunting!") and most have not put out their summer things here yet!

Hello, I find that Levis have a variety of styles that may fit your daughter. Also, Joe's are a good fit too. I buy them from Nordstrom Rack.

I know exactly how you feel. It is a chore finding appropriate fitting jeans for my 11 y/o. I but the most from J C Penny. Their Arizona brand and Levi brand usually fit nicely. As someone else stated, longer tops are another option. I think if parents would stop buying the "below the waist" pants_manufactors would stop making them. It is sad that you have to look for them and that they aren't the standard anymore. It irritates me when I see young girls bending over an their crack is showing. Try J C Penny.
