Blood Droplets on Child's Pillow in Morning?

For the past week or two, my 7-year-old has had some bloody smears on his pillow when he wakes up. They're dry by the time he wakes, but they look a little diluted, not like straight blood. He has allergies and tends to rub his nose on his pillow in the night, so at first I thought he might be irritating some dry tissue in there. But he also has a loose tooth that he likes to wiggle and tug at, so I'm also wondering if that could be bleeding slightly (I know he drools on his pillow sometimes). Anyone else had this happen?

What can I do next?

No, but my son certainly has nose bleeds ever so often. Do you ever swab his nose with some vaseline before he goes to bed? That would help. So would a cool mist humidifier.

I'd stay on top of his nose to help prevent sinus infections during the changing weather. The loose tooth will resolve itself.

Good luck!

A cool mist vaporizer should help

I used to get nose bleeds a lot at night. They tend to be lighter than nosebleeds during the day. That would be my guess.

My son had this happen when he was about 8 yrs old. Turned out that he was biting his inner cheek at night, kind of like grinding his teeth. We figured it out one day when he was brushing his teeth and he complained his skin hurt. He meant inside his mouth. he had a sore spot. And he has had some night time bloody noses.

A slight dry air nose bleed is my first guess.
Has the heat been turned on at your house in the last few weeks?
A humidifier in his room at night should help.

He's picking his nose in his sleep. If he's had a stuffy nose he's sleeping with his mouth open and everything is drying out. I bet if you look at his fingernails his index finger will look gross. No worries - it's just a few droplets. My DD often had the same thing.

Could be either or seems to me. I'm sure it's not anything to worry about.
