P.M.
Age could be significant here, but in general, mouths are very generously endowed with blood vessels. And mouths tend to heal quickly. If he has loosened a tooth, then I'd want to have a doctor or dentist evaluate it.
my son bumped his mouth this morning, and his gums still seem to be bleeding occasionally in that same place (front tooth). it's starting to freak me out. i tried having him suck on a cold towel and eat a popsicle, but he didn't want to do either one.
is this going to take a while to heal?
Thanks for all the responses. I checked his tooth right away, and it didn't seem loose. He's never been good at letting me put my fingers in his mouth, so sometimes it's hard to get a good look/feel, but it hasn't bled at all today (as far as I can tell), so I guess it's probably healed up. It just seemed to take forever!
Thanks again. It's nice to have someone to get a little reassuring advice from!

I think you will be surprised at how quickly his mouth heals, unfortunately, the mouth is one of those human parts that bleeds more.
A mouth sore can bleed more often and sometimes seem to bleed a ton. You can check his tooth to see if it seems loose, though unless it is REALLY loose, it will tighten on its own without a serious injury. If he is bleeding more after eating, that is the culprit. My son has had 2 injuries in his mouth. One was right behind his bottom teeth and it took over a week to finally heal. The sore kept opening up especially after eating. If the tooth does not seem loose, let it sit overnight. It may be just what is needed to get his gums to settle down so to speak.
.
I would give a call to his pediatrician, just in case.
I would see the dentist right away to make sure it is ok. My daughter got knocked in the teeth with a jump rope handle and it was bruised and sore. the dentist looked at it and kept an eye on it for a while and took some xrays. She said she wanted to make sure there wasn't any excess bleeding that would have to be drained. It was fine but made me feel better . It was her front bottom tooth. Good luck :)
