Mamas & Papas-
Any freshwater tropical fish enthusiasts out there with advice re: our newest additions? The black mollies looked a little plump, and now, I spy two babies in our 20 gallon tank. The tank also contains a pleco, two turquoise danios, a melon barb, four adult black mollies, 5 snails and two neon tetras.
Tips for caring for our little friends? Will we soon be inundated? How often do these guys bear young.

You can get a small 'breeder net' to put in the tank. It is a little rectangular net the can be suspended in the tank (so the fish all share the same water, filtration, etc) but none of the other fish can get in and eat the babies. Good luck. Also - no one will judge you based upon how many baby fish you have or on whether or not they were planned.
you will have to separate the babies from the others, the will eat them...
They will get eaten.
Take the babies out.
Put them in another little tank.
Until they get bigger.
You can keep them or give it away.
There will be more than just 2 babies.....
And get fish food that is tinier particles.
Just for the babies.
Just basic tropical fish food.
I love Black Mollies. They are so cute.
Like the other mamas said, they will most likely disappear quickly (be eaten by other fish). There's the breeder net and I've also used the plastic aquarium grass (deeper is better for the babies to hide in). The mama fish will have something like 5-20 babies! Not sure how often they will reproduce, but if you just don't do anything to keep them "safe," they won't last long anyways. I loved having my mollies (I had black & dalmation)! I'm still trying to convince myself that I'm ready to commit to another fish tank (we currently have 3 cats, a dog, and a turtle)! They are so relaxing and fun to watch!
