Black Heads and Large Pores

Anyone have a good recommendation for black heads and large pores? I am over 50 and still have this problem. Have tried various over the counter cleansers, masks and strips. Nothing seems to make a difference. My two teenage sons now have the same problem! Neither one has had a serious acne problem, certainly not as many zits as I remember having at their age. Have taken my oldest to the dermatologist and they prescribed an expensive topical ointment that my son refuses to use. He says it made his face break out and he didn't like it. Younger son would not use it either. What has worked for you?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for your wonderful advice! I decided to start with the easiest and cheapest method first. I bought some Tea Tree Oil and have been using it for a couple of days and I really do see a definite improvement with the blackheads. Not sure if I will be able to get my sons to try it though because of the smell. Not sure it has helped the large pores yet. Will maybe try getting a facial next and possibly some of the other suggestions. Thanks again!

I wish I could convey to you how much a miracle tea tree oil has been. Pure, therapeutic grade, tea tree oil (not a blend). It's called melaleuca (scientific name). I don't have time to type here how much of a problem blackheads have been for me and actually, I discovered the tea tree oil remedy by accident. I was using it to treat a sinus infection (it's anti-microbial), and put it on the tip of my nose and within two days, black-heads that I hadn't been able to get rid of for YEARS were gone. Google melaleuca essential oil, or tea tree essential oil, there are several places where you can get the pure oil, and there are many more uses than just black heads. It's my favorite household product now. :)

One word. Clarisonic!!!

Seriously! They are expensive, but sooooo worth it. Don't buy it off amazon, they aren't the real deal. I bought mine at ULTA. You can buy one machine and multiple heads.

It's going to sound counter intuitive, but google the "oil cleansing method". My skin is absolutely the best it has ever been..and I typically have very oily skin, but no more...who knew???

I use this method 1x/day, at night. I apply my mix of oils, steam my face, then I use a clarisonic and wipe off the excess oil. I moisturize with a mix 2 drops jojoba oil and 2 drop tea tree oil.

An occasional baking soda mask is also excellent. Mix baking soda and water to from a paste. Apply to a clean face and let dry (it will crack and flake when it dries). Rinse. OMG, it dissolves everything for me!

I like Murad's clarifying cleanser. I'm 50 and it doesn't dry out your skin. When I was younger, I liked ProActiv. One of the very best things is to let egg white dry on your skin. It tightens your pores and pulls out impurities. If there is any full blown acne, don't be afraid of an antibiotic. I tried home remedies for years that often left me with a red, peeling, swollen face covered with acne until an antibiotic cleared me up in two weeks.

Treat yourself to a good facial. Once every three to six months. Makes a world of difference. Look online for recommendations of a good spa near you.

Guys can do it too, but, they might shy away from "going to a spa".
