My ex father in law has that.. and he is 67.. Is doing great... He is very active with my 3yr old daughter. His valves both open at the same time at time. Good luck
I have a 5 weeks old son that was born with a bicuspid aortic valve in his heart. I am having a hard time dealing with this and was wondering if anyone here has a child with the samething. I would like to talk to someone going through the samething I am. A normal aortic valve has a three leaf flap that opens and closes. My son only has two which means it doesn't close all the way. Right now we are just watching him to see how he grows into it and will learn more when we go back to the cardiologist in Jan.

It is always nerveracking to hear news about our children's health, so I certainly understand your worry. I just wanted to share a "success-story" with you:
My mother-in-law lived with the same condition all her very active, full life. She only recently had surgery to correct it (at 65 due to dr recommendation) and is still doing fantastic. She can out-shop all her girls!
L.,
As hard as I know it must be, please don't worry.
It is a terrifying ordeal to go through when you know there is an issue with your child's heart. I just went through it with my 10 year old daughter. She had to wear a heart monitor for a month because she was having palpitations.
After a month, her doctor said that everything was alright - thankfully.
During this time, I did a lot of research online. I remember coming across "bicuspid aortic valve". If I am remembering right, it is not really an issue. (I know it is to you, but to your son's health, it is not.)
I also know that doctors don't really give you much information, and you can leave the office with such a sense of dread throughout yourself. Ease your mind, and go to www.webmd.com . Just whatever you do, DON'T go extreme. I seem to find some reliable information, then keep going just so I can find something horrible so I can feel that fear. Stupid, I know. Stick to webmd.com. It is a very reliable site - doctors themselves go there for information! (I heard that on the news.)
Really, try not to worry without something to worry about. Find some peace at webmd, then let it go.
If you feel you must do SOMETHING, try visualizing your son's heart pumping wonderfully now, and in the future all the way until he is an old man. Do this every day.
Email me if you wish.

My son does not have the same condition but did have a heart condition that required surgery at 2 weeks old. So I know you are going through a very rough time. The cardiolgist at Texas children are wonderful. I di not know if that is where you are going. My son sees Dr. Mott and he is a great doctor he tells you everthing and helps you understand what will come in the future. I will be praying gfor you and your family. What helped me through that time was to be able to talk to family and friends. I also talked to outer mothers at the hospital and we would just cry and support each other. Please feel free to contact me at any time I would love to be there for you. Its easer to vent your frustration on a person you don't know.
L., I'm sorry your having to go thru this. Put it in hands of God and get your baby on numerous prayer lists. Where two or more are gathered then HE is in the midst of them. Also if your doctor is not with a Texas Childrens Doctor you may at least want a second opinion with a Dr from there. They are wonderful there. Also get online and find out more so maybe you can sleep better. Take care and I'll be praying and I have several churches that will be too. Since you don't go back to January relax and have a Merry Christmas.
