Best Venue for Selling a Used Wedding Ring?

I tried to sell my wedding band that we paid $11,000 for - I have the papers and the appraisal. It was an eternity band, with 12 diamonds (each 1/3 carat) all the way around it.

The best offer I got was for $936.00. Yes, NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS.

I tried jewelry stores and independant jewlers. I tried getting it appraised first (always appraised for the same amount) and THEN offering to sell it. I tried listing it on ebay and craigs list.

The $936 offer, by the way, was from the jewelry store in the mall.

I kept it - I will break it apart and make several pieces of jewelry for my daughter (it was the ring her dad gave me) for her 18th birthday.

Do not expect to get more than 1/4-1/3 to what you paid. That's just how it works.

Try a pawn shop.

bring it to a good jewelery store-if its worth that much-theyll give you a good price-plus you can go to several different ones-get the most for your ring..you will not get what your looking for on ebay,craigslist etc.also try the pawn shops-i found them to be pretty fair when i got rid of a bunch of jewelery i no longer wore..good luck

I tried to sell my wedding ring, which we paid $10,000 for and the best offer I could get was $1000 from a jewelry store at the mall. Some stores will sell used wedding rings on consignment, but they didn't want mine since the wedding band and engagement band were soldered together.

I sell lots of things on Ebay, but people don't want to pay a lot for a ring on Ebay from a private buyer when they can't get the ring appraised themselves or see it in person. Plus, you have actual ring shops on Ebay that are selling certified diamonds for much less and they have credentials to back them up.

I tried Craigslist, even offered to meet people at the jeweler to have the ring appraised in front of them, but no luck.

I had the best luck with the jewelry stores, I went several times because the price of diamonds and metal varies a lot. The first offer was for $800, the second for $900 and I waited another month and got $1000 around Valentine's Day when they are selling a lot of diamonds.

Good luck! You won't get much--diamond value is purely sentimental. That's why I refused to get a diamond ring from my current husband. I'd rather we spend thousands on something else! I have a beautiful ring that cost $300 and I'm perfectly happy with it!

Ebay people (like me) are usually looking for bargains... and people interested in buying quality rings usually want to try them on first. If I were going to sell a valuable wedding ring, I'd go to a jewelry store. The jeweler will be able to say what the ring's value is today and recommend where to take it.

Style-wise, it has undoubtedly gone down in value, just as cars do, and that could be a significant devaluation. It's probably a matter of the value of the metal and the stones. Since your ring doesn't have antique value (you're not that old, right?), I wouldn't get my hopes up about getting a *lot* of money. It may be more like selling a car for its parts.

You've started a little thread of commentary about people's wedding rings, which is interesting.... Mine is very simple - yellow gold with one oval-shaped diamond. It cost my husband (I found out much later) less than $1000. In his defense (if that's needed), a thousand dollars was a lot more money forty-some years ago. He paid cash and didn't go into debt for it.
That was fine with me.

I held onto my old ring for years trying to find the best price a place would pay for it -- mine wasn't nearly as expensive as yours - we paid around 1800 for it. The best I could find was someone who paid me $300 :-((((
