I suggest you contact Mother's Helper in Avon Lake, they are listed in the business section of this site. They will allow you to actually try the pumps and/or help you select one that is just right for you. They are wonderful!

Congrats on the baby. My suggestion is to go with the Medela Pump in Style as well. I have one and I love it. You can look for the pump unit for a bit less on sites that resell stuff, like ebay, and then get new attachments. I had a friend who found one for about $80 for the machine part and then got the replacement pack from Medela. Just an option to save a little money. I have one that you are welcome to borrow but you would need to buy new parts. I will be moving to Hebron in a few weeks. I am in Texas now. Good Luck, J.
Hi J.,
I used the Avent Isis. It's extremely comfortable. You may just want to borrow some from friends and see which one works best for you before purchasing one.

another one for medela. i have the pump in style and love it!
Hi J.!
Congratulations on your baby boy. How exciting to be expecting your first baby. :)
I personally use the Medela Pump in Style. I used it five years ago when I had my daughter and am now using it again with my son, who is currently three months old. It's very efficient and semi quiet. It eats up batteries like crazy, though, so if you'll have an electrical outlet available to you, you'd be a bit better off.
Good luck with the baby and I hope your transition back to work will be a smooth one for you. :)
I have the Medela Pump in Style Advanced. Has the let down setting, which makes bringing down my milk much faster and more comfortable. A bit pricier, but I love it!
A medela electric double pump is the best, in my opinion. I exclusively pumped with my son and the medela was incredible!
Medela for sure!!! I tried three different pumps, and even though they are expensive, Medela pumps are the best and the fastest! I wouldn't even bother with the hand pumps. They are a waste of time and money. Here is their website: www.medela.com
Hope this helps you, and best of luck to you and your baby!

I loved one by Medela. I don't remember what model is was, but I do know it was about $250. The price tag was a lot of money to us, but you definitely get what you pay for. I went back to work full time after 4 months and was able to continue nursing until my son was 1.
Congratulations! I am also expecting my baby around Thanksgiving Day (actually 6 days before, but you never know when they'll show up!)
Anyway, it seems the majority of moms here are using the Medela Pump In Style. I've never really heard anything bad about these, but I wanted to throw out another suggestion. I pumped for several months with my 1st baby with a single electric pump, it wasn't one of the best (Evenflo) and I think that's what contirbuted to only 8 months of breastfeeding. I am purchasing an Avent Isis, Manual pump for when I return to work after having my second. Yes, it's a manual pump and a lot of people will turn their noses up to this, I know I did at first. However, I haven't heard anything bad about these either (except that the handle can squeak a little).
This pump is supposed to be just as good, if not better than, the more expensive electric pumps. In fact, a lot of moms even pump more with this one. I've read more reviews than I can count on this pump, and talked to several women as well. I've been told that this pump can withstand heavy pumping usage (3-4x's per day/5 days a week), which is what I will be using it for.
I've seen the cost for the Isis On-The-Go set range from $45-60, depending on if there's a sale. It comes with a carrying case, the pump, a couple bottles, 2 ice packs.
Good luck with the new baby and congrats on your decision to breastfeed! :)
Definitely get an electric pump - they are sort of expensive, but being able to pump both breasts at once is a timesaver. Really Medela is top of the line, but its not rated for sterilizing for changing between people - not that you'd really want to do this - but you may want to sell it later. I had the ameda purely yours & liked it a lot - my mother is an obstetrics nurse & was familiar with many & she checked mine out before i got it. Its a little cheaper, with more features than some & it is rated for switching and stuff - so, is resellable...
Hope that helps...

totally agree medella!! I loved it - I passed it on to my cousin and she loves it!!
Congratulations and enjoy!

Hi J..
First of all congrats on your upcoming arrival. They truly are little blessings! I nursed my daughter too and with all the different brands it's hard to know which one to get! I chose an electric Medella (not sure if the spelling is right). They are pricy, but well worth it. They come in stylish black bags for better concealing, which makes it nice when you go back to work. I found the electric so much easier than the manual pumps.
I'm sure you'll get lots of advice on here, so good luck.

I tried a really nice expensive one from babies r us with no luck the first time around. With my second child I bought one the medela hospital grade pumps for $250 on ebay. I worked GREAT!!! I would recommend either renting one from the hospital or finding a good deal on ebay. I think to rent one is like $50 a month. I use the Medela lactina plus, they came out with a new model the lactina select. I used both ( my work upgraded to the select while I was still pumping) I think they were about the same.
Good luck!!
I also vote for the Medela Pump in Style which I used with my twins. I needed something quick and efficient! As for resale value, you can sell the actual pump because they sell all the accesorires (sheilds, tubing, etc,)seperately. We considered renting but if you pump for five or more months you might as well buy the pump! Best of luck and congratulations on your choice to breastfeed!
If you are planning on pumping at work (probably at least twice a day) then go with the Medela Pump-n-Style. I exclusively pumped for my baby (8 times a day) and it was great! No pain, great pumping, has both a ac adaptor and a battery pack. You can also pump both sides at the same time (and hands free if you get one of those special attachment bras). Don't get a manual one for as much as you will need to do.
The Medla Pump-in-style. It is expensive but well worth the money. It is durable, works well, and has a convenient carrying case. If you have problems getting your milk to come in, as I did, it is the one recomened to me by many lactation consultants. Congrats on the baby on the way. I hope all goes well for you.
My wife, who is at term, has done some research on this and she decided on Bailey Medical's breast pumps: http://www.baileymed.com/
It is an affordable, functional machine produced by a small company in California. They also have pro-rated pricing scale, depending on your household income. Their goal is to make breast feeding, including pumping, an option for all women.

J.,
I highly recommend the Medela Pump in Style. It's a little pricey but works great, and lasts a long time. I bought mine when my oldest was born (she's almost 7 now), used it for my son, and now use it with my 3-month old daughter. I've worked full-time with all 3 of them. It's quick, effective, and comes in a discreet leather "case" that I don't mind carrying around with me at work. If you have any more specific questions feel free to contact me at ____@____.com.

Medela for sure. I researched a bunch of different pumps, and after reading reviews and getting information, I went with the Medela double electric pump. It's about $250, but if you think of all the money you save by not formula feeding, it pays for itself in no time.
Medela breast pumps are the best; I used my for 13 months and if I have another child I hope to re-use it because it still works.
Mine has the double pump, so I was able to pump both breast simultaneously and that saved me a lot of time.
Hope this helps.
