Hi S., I noticed on your profile that you are 39.. that said, hormones may be hindering your efforts in losing belly fat. I have recently begun reading a book by Dr. Vliet, whose specialty it is dealing with hormones and how they can affect a woman's health. You may already know that when Estradiol levels fall off , we tend to then lean more towards the hormone Progesterone. With this happening, amongst other things such as stress and the release of Cortisol, we can become more insulin resistant and therefore it can become very difficult to lose the belly fat. This, no matter how much work you put into it.. Additionally, the Luteal (the portion of our cycle right after we ovulate) can especially become a difficult time to lose weight as the effects of being Progesterone dominant cause us to crave sweets, feel sluggish and sometimes foggy minded.
I mention all this because you may want to get your hormones checked to see what stage you are in when it comes to your hormone levels. Could be you are Perimenopausal.. Also, not only does Estradiol drop off, but so does Testosterone.. (as you may know, it's essential in building muscle) As we age, due to the drop in this hormone, it also makes building muscle more difficult which in turn, means less fat is being burned.
I mention all this stuff not to derail your efforts but to assure you it's NOT in your head and your having a tough time is not uncommon for women. Consider checking out one of Vliet's books, for example >>(screaming to be heard) I found the information so helpful. I am 47 and have had my own issues with hormones, body fat and a myriad of other things. Now that I am reading this book, it's been such an eye-opener. I would recommend it to any woman, no matter what age..
I wish you the best of luck.. also, despite not getting the result as quickly as you would like, keep up your efforts... belly fat or not.. exercising is a GREAT thing..
good luck!!
