Hello moms!! I am wondering if any of you happen to know the approximate age that baby's belly buttons recess. When I asked the doctor this question, all she said is that in time, his stomach muscles will pull it in, and not to worry. Well, I'm not "worried", just curious. Should it have happened already? I am ok with the fact that my son might have an "outie", I just want to know, because I can't remember that far back, about what age it happens. If any of you moms have a clue, or recently experienced this, I would love your input! Thanks in advance!!!

So What Happened?

Thank you ladies for your advice! While the baby doesn't have a hernia, just a little loose skin around his belly button, I appreciate all of you taking the time to write. I will continue to watch it and see what happens!!!

My daughter had an umbilical hernia too(way out there!), doctor said if it didn't go in by the time she was 3, there was surgery for it if I wanted it. It went in when she was around 2, almost overnight!

My first daughters belly button didn't fully turn into an innie until she was a little after 2. My baby is almost 1 and has an innie about half the time.. when she has a full belly it sticks out really far! LOL

I have heard that if it doesn't get pulled in by about 2 or 3, there is a surgery that can be done, as it is most probably a hernia... Until then, don't worry about it. You can wrap the diaper around the belly, to help hold it in, so it heals...
Good luck

Well my son has an umbilical hernia so his lil button sticks out pretty far, especially when he's mad. The ped said not to worry about it so we haven't, but now that he's almost 17 months and it shows no signs of retreating we're beginning to wonder as well.
