Bedroom Makeover

I wouldn't paint real wood either. There is something about painting wood that doesn't sit well with me, but probably because I prefer to see the wood grain instead of paint that will eventually peel in time. Can you sand and re-stain? There are so many pretty colors of stain out there today and I believe some places you can color match. I'm sorry I'm not of more help... You sound very excited to do this project. I hope you find what you're looking for.

My hubby scored a child size wood dresser on freecycle.com. I sanded it and spray painted it pink. I did the drawers white. Then I bought the stick on disney princess wall decals to decorate the drawers and dresser with. I monogramed the top and then had hubby spray shellac it to seal the dresser and drawers. I bought disney princess knobs on ebay. In total the supplies cost $25 and my daughter has a personalised dresser that she loves. Paint is so forgiving if you make a mistake you can always sand and redo. Go for and enjoy your new room.

I also am planning this I'am either going to buy new side tables or paint my old ones,for that i'll sand them down first they are store painted then paint them my color is barn yard red with a rustic finish add some rustic hardware,then add a new lamp that is rustic black with an off tone to gold my carpet is off white,my walls & the wall decor I want candle sconces big ones to fill up space behind my dresser mine sits low to the ground so this will work I already have a new quilt new bed pillows & sheets that will be a dark blue to match the quilt it is a rustic red with creams to match the walls/carpet.Hubby has no idea

i would not paint like a 1000% wood dresser or bed because they can be re stained or something but if it is like wood compost then i would paint it

Colors that speak to peaceful and serene would be cool tones like blues, greens, ivorys, and creams. If your room is large then painting the dresser burgundy/red could work but if the room is small and the dresser is going to take up a large space in the room or be a major focal point you may want to graduate to some neutral color or make it blend into your wall color and accent your room with burgundy/red accent colors in pillows, blankets, lamps, curtains, etc.

If the dresser is wooden you will need to sand it down before any paint treatment.

My girls had a dresser once that was made of laminate. I spray painted it. (Please take it outside to spray paint. That paint really gets all over everywhere.) My boys dresser was wooden and I painted it royal blue when they were small.

Good luck on your decorating and design choices. If you end up not liking the color just paint it another color instead using the same medium (spray paint for spray paint, etc.).

I think that painting it would be fine, but I would look first to see what it is and if it's a piece of expensive furniture. I don't think I would paint anything that was Ethan Allen;) But at the same time there are definitely other pieces I wouldn't mind painting. The only downfall to latex paint is that it does scrap off easily, but if you do some sanding before hand it will be much better. Now my mom redid a solid maple dresser for my dd and she stripped it, stained it and then painted flowers on it. She stenciled them actually and she did it to the top and a few of the drawers. It came out really nice and my dd loves it.

I painted older furniture once and it was great. I used good old fashioned latex wall paint. The secret is you have to lightly sand it first so the paint "sticks"!

As for colors that would go well with burgundy/red...I've got that and use golds and dark greens/sage greens. Really pretty.

If your heart is set on a burgandy dresser... I would highly recommend doing THAT piece first. Then look at your room and start adding to it. While the *poof* done of doing everything at once is the most alluring, most of us don't have the spatial imagination to be able to "see" how everything would work and really need to go step by step to avoid having things clash/ come out badly.

I would spray paint if your going to. First sand it well so its a touch rough so the paint sticks better. If you dont like it there are ways of fixing it no problem. Take the color you want and try it on the back part of the dresser or on a less noticeable place so you can see how you will like it.

Yellow/golds always look nice with burgandy, or the right color of blue. Also greens look great too. You could for curtains get a nice sheer burgandy color that has a design stitched on them. I did and it looks great in my bedroom. It still lets the natural light in while looking pretty and not heavy and dark.

You can paint your headboard to match your bedroom furniture as well it brings together all the colors you have. And get a rug for the floor that goes with the print or color design you choose.

So many things you could do, I love HGTV! Lol, I redid my bedroom and it looks great, so happy, without spending too much.

I did nice greens, with browns and golds. Got a new bed comforter that had a matching rug, and found sheer curtains that matched perfect then bought candle holding sconces and hung them on the wall.

So many ideas.
