We are going to build a bat box this spring for our yard. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!

What can I do next?

We bought our bat box. I think they need to be put up about 40' -- like in a tree and I think they should face North.

Here's a site with some helpful info:

Good for you! Bats are great. I haven't built one yet (we are planning on building one for my mom for her birthday) but I do know the location of your bat house is important. It needs to be in an area that gets a lot of sunlight (at least 8 hours, I think) but not near street lights/outside lights that are on during the night. It is also a good idea to prime with an outside primer and then paint it a dark color so it absorbs and retains heat. I was also told by my cousin (who is a wildlife scientist) that the bigger the house the happier the bats and that the bottom should be open (so the guano doesn't accumulate) and the interior should be rough so the bats can get a good grip. Happy building!

I don't know how to do it etc.

We live on a wooded lot and back up to park property. Our city put bat boxes up in the park area and there are a couple close to us. They are up pretty high in the tree.

I think it is a great idea!!
