I was wondering if any of you moms had any positive or negative reviews when it comes to delivering your baby at Barnes Jewish St. Peters. I had my first child at St. Josephs in St. Charles, and had some issues with that hospital, so now I am due in January with my second child and looking at the Barnes Jewish St. Peters which is right down the street. I am going to schedule a tour there soon, but would love to hear first hand from other moms about their experiences at this hospital :) Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

WONDERFUL HOSPITAL! I recommend it to everyone! The nursing and doctors staff was incredible. Everyone seemed to enjoy their job (which is a refreshing change). Smaller yet totally worth it!

I delievered there, my sister & my best friend had all 4 of hers there. No problems at all. I'd recommend it. My sister's daughter had to be rushed to Cardinal Glennon the first night & Barnes was cool enough to give her a day pass the next day & then let her come back to her room until she was ready to be officially released.
Congrats & good luck!

I did not receive good care at this hospital -- much to the contrary. The doctor who delivered my child, Dr. Joseph Hazan, (who was my OB's stand-in and has privileges at BJC-St. Peters) completely violated my right to informed consent during delivery. He performed numerous interventions without my knowledge or consent and basically robbed me of being part of my daughter's birth. These procedures had risks and benefits and I was not allowed to hear about or weigh in on them because the doctor did not respect me enough to treat me like a human being during delivery. The nurses there were wonderful but none of their hard work matters if the hospital allows doctors to practice there without respecting their patients at all. When I complained to the hospital they were receptive and kind, but if someone treats you like garbage during the most important moments of your stay there, nothing anyone can say afterwards matters. It's too bad, because I loved the feel of this small community hospital over bigger ones. But I will never, ever go there on purpose again and I would never, ever recommend having a baby at BJC-St.Peters.

I delivered my first at MoBap, and my second at BJHSP. I am planning on having my 3rd (due in 3 weeks) at BJHSP,also. No complaints, but yes, if you're little miracle had any problems, they do not have a NICU available, so a transfer would be needed. I chose to stay close to home with #2 and #3 to make things easier for Dad and sibling at home. When I was at MoBap, I had to labor and deliver in one room and then change to a post-partum room (4 yrs ago). BJHSP is all in the same room-that was a plus for me! As long as your pregnancy is progressing nicely, I wouldn't stress about the lack of NICU. I know which hospital I can go to if things change and that would be my advice to you is to have an alternative if they know in advance that there may be problems. Good luck and way to be proactive early on!

Alot of people I know have also had issues with St Joseph's. I don't know where your dr's offices are or what your insurance covers, but I delivered all of my children at Missouri Baptist!! THEY ARE AWESOME!! They help the family as well as the mother! I recommend them to everyone!

I'm getting ready to deliver my 4th baby at BJC St. Peters and have had a wonderful experience each time. Twice my husband had a run-in with night nurses but it was minor enough that we returned (dad is very particular about not letting that newborn out of his sight and we were told that if we didn't want them to take the baby to the nursery then the nurses would come to our room to check on baby with weighing and checking vitals. Well, night nurses wanted to take baby for convenience and dad said no and they argued it out but dad won ;o)

the best plans and practices are only as good as how well you are doing with the delivery, who is on staff at that time, and any unforseen physical building problems. any or all of these issues can cause the experience to be great or not. no one can predict perfection (read about Jesus's birth circumstances) just decide that this is a miracle and nothing can change that feeling of anticipation and joy.k

I delivered my second child there. The care and staff were great! I was expecting an uncomplicated birth and a healthy baby so I had no issues going to BJSP. If I had gone into labor early for some reason I would have gone to St. John's, but I didn't and everything was great. My only complaint was that my first night there, they were doing construction work and making a lot of noise right above my room. I said something to them about it and then the second night was just fine. Good luck with your decision and your baby.

I wanted to deliver ur first child there but during th epregnancy we found that there were som eissues that may have required that my son be placed in perhaps the NICU at birth so my Dr. actually preferred that we deliver at St. Johns Mercy in Creve Coeur where their medical facility was more advanced and prepared to treat an infant. I delivered both of my children there and I actualy loved it eachtime. The second time was like a real mini-vacation for me!
I have a friend that delivered twice at Barnes St. Peters and she can't say enough great things about it. My FIL and Grandmother both stayed for extended periods of time at the hospital for various reasons and we were all happy with their care. I know a nurse that works at BSP and she did not have very nice things to say about her employer, but I guess you can find that attitude anywhere. My thing about BSP is now the fact that I know they would have been ill prepared to treat my son if he needed it and he probably would have ended up being transferred to St. John's while I would have had to stay in the hospital. As it was he did have to go into a special care nursery (not the actual NICU) and they gave me a room right next door to that unit. I'd recommend a tour of St. Johns as well.

I know someone who used to be an L&D nurse there. She recommended I deliver at St.Luke's or Mo Bap. I think Barnes is a little better than St.John's...I actually chose my obgyn based on where she delivers.

If you look at my "Best hospitals to have a baby...?Worst?" request back in 2008 (I'm not sure if it's searchable still...) I got a lot of very helpful responses that might help you too.
