Not a big deal at all. You just drink then they position you and take pictures. Then it's over. When you poop it out sometimes it's an odd color but nothing I stressed out over.
Hello Dear Moms,
Since I am having some difficulties swallowing and experiencing heartburn, my doctor requested the test Barium Swallow to determine the causes of my symptoms. I understand that is a procedure in which I have to drink a thick liquid while having some series of films taken. My question is, have any of you done that? How many X-rays are taken during the procedure? I don't like X-rays but it is important to assess my problem. Did you have any side effects with it?. I'd appreciate your comments. To be honest...I am nervous and anxious about this. Thank you so much!

my son had this D. when he was around 12. he had no problems whatsoever, other than not liking drinking "gross chalk"! he said the test was a breeze. no side effects other than his poop was a different color which, as a typical boy, he found very fascinating! good luck!
I've had them, don't like them, (reminds me of drinking liquid chalk), but they're tolerable. They'll need clear pictures/x-rays so may need to take several in different positions, I've received a thick liquid laxative to drink after one, not the other, and had no side effects. Nothing really to be nervous or anxious about, but I know the unknown does that. Just remind yourself this is to help pinpoint the problem. Hugs!
